Need Help Finding a Good Orthopedic Doctor for My Daughter

I spent 4 hours today in the E.R. with my daughte yesterday. She got pushed down at school and hurt her wrist. Turns out she broke both the radius and ulna bones and actually fractured the radius. She had to have the bone set and splinted until the swelling goes down . Next week we will get her to the Orthopedic doctor to get it casted. If it doesn’t heal properly, were looking at surgery to put pins in the bone. Crossing my fingers it doesn’t come to that! I live in Livermore and am looking for any suggestions on a good orthopedic doctor.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?™

Thanks to everyone for the responses! With the advice of my daughter's pediatrician, I took her to Tri Valley Orthopedics right here in Livermore. After they took a look at the x-rays taken by the hospital after my daughter's arm had been set, they were able to see that the bone still had not been manipulated(set) into the right spot. That wasn't the only problem, though. The doctor had put a temporary splint on my daughter with her wrist at an angle, which I found out from the Orthopedic doctor was the wrong thing to do. Needless to say, we ended up in surgery to re-manipulate the bone and then put pins in it. At this point, my daughter still has a temorary splint on because the pins are sticking out of the skin. We will visit the dr again on Tuesday afternoon to have them removed and them finally a cast for 6 weeks. I have been homeschooling her so she doesn't fall behind on schoolwork, and it also still gives her perfect attendance for the year. She is very much looking forward to going back to school later this week.

Hi A.,
http://www.pediorthosv.com/bios.htm, here is a link to Dr. Kanel who is a pediatric Orthopedic doctor. He's taken care of my younger daughters and grandsons. Living in Livermore, you might find it a bit far for you, but call his office and maybe they can refer you to one closer if you wish.

Good Luck.

I recommend Leo Semkiw in San Jose ###-###-####. A couple of years ago, my friend fell on the tennis court and shattered her wrist. He set it and used this metal device that had pins going into the wrist, I think, to help control the movement and position. Today she's playing tennis and is painfree. He also operated on my husband's knee and has operated on several other people that I know with great success. Good luck!

Dear A.,
I would recommend having a look by our Dr. Long, and acupressurist who is very good with bone issues(Mondays only). I am an acupuncturist, and belive that acupuncture will be able to help assist in your daughter's healing energy.
Thank you.

Sorry for the delyed response I was out of town & just read your request. I had back surgery, removal of a bulged disc this past June. Dr Talwar in San Ramon was awesome. He is located at an office right next to the SR regional medical hospital. He did a great job, a very small scar & I was fully recovered 4 months later. ###-###-####. His assistant is Giselle & she was also great. May your daughter heal quickly!

What is your medical coverage? Do you have Kaiser or other? If Kaiser, Dr. Bernstein in Vallejo Kaiser is great. H.

I have used Dr. Reginald McCoy for the past 26 years and absolutely LOVE him. I only stopped going to him because we switched to Kaiser. I have had 3 surgeries with him and absolutely love him. My Mom also used him when she broke her elbow. He's on Dardanelli Lane, near Los Gatos Community Hospital.

I went through a very similar thing w/ my daughter, now 14, about 3 yrs ago. I would recommend Dr. Leo Semkiw in San Jose (2430 Samaritan Drive),###-###-####. My daughter broke both the bones of her leg (at the ankle), broke through the growth plate, and did end up needing to have a screw surgically placed. All went very smoothly and she is good as new. Good luck
