Online Violin Tutorials for Dd

Do any of you have kids in school orchestra? My dd just started and she's falling behind because most of the other kids play an instrument already (like piano). My dd is new to music and the orchestra teacher is going too fast and assumes the kids already know everything (even though it's supposed to be for beginners). I play piano, so I can help her learn the notes on the treble clef, but I can't help her with finding the notes on the violin. Hiring a tutor may not be in the budget right now. I've looked on youtube, but some of the videos I've seen are hard to follow or such poor quality that you can see anything.

Any suggestions?

talk to the school and ask if they have a mentorship program.

ask a kid who's in the Chamber section (advanced) if they would be willing to come over and play together.

Talk to the teacher and find out what your daughter needs to focus on. Ask if she knows of a mentorship program. Our high school has one. It's free and helps the kids once a week for one hour.

I don't know but I have a very smart, musically gifted friend that said violin is the hardest instrument she ever had to learn.

Maybe share a tutor with another child. Both take a lesson at the same time and see if they can give you a break on it.

Ask the orchestra teacher at the high school if he or she has a student who would give lessons to your daughter at a low rate. He or she will pick one who has decent fingering and can read the music well.

Forget the youtube stuff. It won't help.

Talk to the orchestra director. My daughter was in orchestra and played the violin. She had never played any instrument.

She picked up on it quickly.... her 6th grade was first year and she was in beginning. By 7th grade, she was in Advanced and 8th grade Chamber through 10th grade.

Our schools had tutors available that would tutor during the class time. It was really economical... maybe $15 a lesson, because all of the students participated in some sort of tutorial program. It was worth every penny. We moved on to a more detailed instructor for all year lessons which also helped.

My daughter was pulled in by the director to help beginners. It counted as volunteer time toward her National Honor society requirements.

I really don't think a video will do you justice because it is important to have communication so you know what you are doing right and wrong.

Best wishes!

My son is 10 and has been playing the violin for 2 years. His teacher gives private lessons and they are only $50.00 per month and that is for one hour once per week. The violin is a difficult instrument to learn. I really don't think anything on line would be of great benefit. What about a high school student who would be willing to tutor? Most of the teenagers in our local high school band would be glad for some extra cash!
