My son also got a ride-on toy for his 1st bday. He is turning 3 this week and still plays with it almost every day.

Another great present is Castle Marbleworks from Discovery Toys. One year olds love it! My son still loves it too, so it will last a long time. She won't get bored quickly. Check it out here: http://www.discoverytoyslink.com/esuite/control/product?P...

Happy birthday to your daughter!

I received a sock monkey doll for my first birthday that instantly became my favorite toy and that I loved all through childhood and still have today. When my daughter turned 1, I bought her a sock monkey doll also, which she grabbed and hugged and kissed immediatly after getting it. Think about something you received for your first birthday or just a beloved toy from your childhood that you can get for her to start a new tradition in your family.

We got our son the Step 2 Sand and Water table....he is about to turn 3 and still loves it! It is the big hit when kids come over to play and keeps them nice and cool on a hot day as they are bound to splash! Enjoy, they grow so quick!!!

My mom got my daughter an anywhere chair from Pottery Barn Kids with her name on it for her first birthday. At about that age, my daughter became very interested in sitting on steps and other types of seating. It used to be in our living room and now it's in her room and she sits in it while we read to her before bedtime every night (she's now 2 and 1/2). We plan to ask my mom to get one for our son when he turns one.

Does she have a little slide/swing set for the yard? That might be nice. :-)

We were in escrow when our baby turned 1. So we joke that we gave her a house for her b-day. LOL. We bought her a "push walker" that converts to a rider toy as her big toy. My friend Christy started me out on this tradition where for every birthday you pick out a special book and give it to them. Inside the book we wrote a note to her and wished her a Happy 1st b-day.

One thing that I wanted to do (but didn't) was take a photo of myself and my husband and write your daughter a birthday letter. Then put it away for safekeeping.

Another thing that I DID do was on the advice of a friend, my husband and I started a journal that we will give to our daughter when she grows up. We write down what she has been doing, saying, milestones, and other funny things that (as a parent) you tend to forget even 3 or 4 months down the road. We write our hopes for her in it, or things that are going on in the world, anything that might give her insight later as an adult as to parenting. I'm sure by then we'll be senile haha, but no one can remember those sweet details 20 or 30 years down the road.

We also make photo albums for her of her life, include pictures of friends, pets, places, and she has been looking at them since she was barely old enough to sit up. She loves her albums, and helps her identify her family that is far away, and special places.

Good luck!
