I am looking at changing the way we do a lot of things n our home, trying to be a little more natural. I have been reading about olive oil and the benefits it has on your hair and face. Has anyone used Olive oil on their face as a wash? What about a conditioning treatment on hair?

So What Happened?

Thanks Ladies! I used it tonight and my skin felt smooth and not tight. I also used it on my legs and it feels so nice! I will just keep trying a little at a time. My hair is still wet, so I won't know till it dries!

Yes! I have an awesome face scrub and I swear by it.

1/2 cup white sugar
2 tbs olive oil
1 tbs honey
2-3 drops tea tree oil

Mix this up together into a paste. You don't want it runny but you don't want it dry either. You may have to add little more oil until you get it just the right mix. It will take a couple of batches before you get it to the consistency you like best.
Store it in a plastic container and keep in the shower. It will not go bad or mold. Scrub gently in the shower and rinse thoroughly. This took care of my acne problems and also left my skin smooth, soft, and glowing.

Shampoo your hair with a bit of baking soda and water mix. Shoudl be kind of pastie. It will not foam and will be a bit difficult to spread but is wonderful. Condition with AVC.

a wonderful face wash is brown sugar (run through a food processor or normal) and some olive oil. Mix into a paste, rub all over your face and let it sit for a minute or two than wash off. So soft, smooth, and clean :) the brown sugar is an antibio and the olive oil moisturizes.

The above shampoo/conditioning regimine WILL be hard to get into if you are currently using regular shampoos. I would first suggest transitioning yourself and your family to sulfate-free shampoos and conditions. Burts Bees, Samy's, etc are great products. Sulfates make the shampoos foam up - it also removes all of your hairs natural oils. When you stop using it you'll start to notice all the oils because your scalp is producing WAY MORE than your hair actually needs since every time you wash, you get rid of it. Eventually it will balance back to normal and you'll have much healier hair than before.

Also try to wash your hair less often and your body less often. Our bodies are good at what they do. The more you wash your hair and body the more you get rid of the natural oils that protect them and keep them healthy. I only wash my hair once a week and my entire body once a week. Of course I do wash the stinky parts more often. :) but my arms, back, legs, etc don't get washed more than once a week unless I'm working out and get real sweaty - and even then just a rinse down helps.

Hope this helps, message me for more tips if you want. This is one of my nerdy passions :) Natural health care.

Well, I made the mistake once of trying mayo for a hair conditioner. I can't imagine olive oil would be much better for hair.
My son has a dry scalp on the fromt and out stylist suggested a little olive or oregano oil applied to the skin -- just a wee bit -- for it's moisturizing properties.
Before soap was "common" people did cleanse their skin with oils...sparingly.
I'd definitely try it as a skin moisturizer.

If my grandma could bathe in olive oil I think she would and I never heard of her cleaning her face with it. I do know when we cooked what was left on our hands was worked in as a moisturizer.

You can use hot oil on your hair but I don't know that it has any different properties than a treatment you can buy at the store.

I've not heard of using olive oil for those reasons. I suggest that doing so would only make your hair and skin oily. And, I doubt that olive oil would be good at cleaning. It lubricates. I have heard of using olive oil as lotion on your skin instead of hand or body lotion. I haven't done it.

My daughter and her husband use olive oil on the baby after diaper changes and baths.

The only thing I've done with olive oil was I added it to 1/2 an avacado and honey to create a face mask. My skin did look brighter and feel moisturized.

I use it on my daughter's scalp when it gets flaky. I warm olive oil in the microwave (not hot, only warm) and part her hair over and over with a comb, working the olive oil in very small amounts into the scalp along the parts; I use the comb to scrape gently on the scalp and bring up the flakes. I leave the oil on for maybe 30 minutes and then we give her hair a very good washing with more gentle scrubbing to get flakes out and get the oil out. I do it only on weekends so that all the extra oil is out of her hair before school starts on Monday. It does help her. But if you tend to have oily hair, olive oil would not be a good choice!
I would think that it would clog facial pores. Look for a moisturizer that contains it but that isn't straight olive oil. I would definitely use it on feet, elbows, etc. but not the face, though I know others do.

I make my own soap and it has olive oil as one of the oils in it. I also make a body cream with olive oil and several others in it that makes the skin feel soft and smooth. The oil does penetrate the skin and feels great all day. No dry tight feeling. It is applied while the skin is still damp from bath or shower.

This way I get to keep the natural glycerin a moisturizer in the soap that large manufacturers skim off and sell. I also know what I am putting on my body and I can pronounce the words.

Good luck to you.

olive oil is great stuff. but it's...er....oily.
i use DHC olive oil facial cleanser, and love it (even though it's pricey for my budget) but it's not just plain olive oil.
i DO use plain olive oil as a facial moisturizer occasionally but only at night. it's really oily. expect to moisturize your pillowcase too. but sometimes my face wants a big AHHHHHHHH which olive oil does give it.
i don't use it as a wash because it's not naturally a cleanser, and i don't put it on my hair for the same reason, i don't want heavy oil clinging there under normal circumstances.
