Hi Mamas. We are planning a trip to the east coast and are tossing around the idea of visiting the Statue of Liberty. My kids are 16, 14, 12, and 3. We will be coming from the NJ side. Anyone know what the crowds will be like or if this is even a plausible idea with a 3yr old? Thanks for you input!!

What can I do next?

I live i NYC, it is a very popular thing to do

You have to buy tickets ahead of time and you want to be on the first boat. It will be crowded, even more so in the summer.

As for the 3 yo, it depends on the child. I could not take my 2.5 year old, he would not sit on the boat ride and would have no interest in the statue or ellis island.

If you do go though, stop at ellis island, I think that is a better trip than the statue, it truly is amazing what those people went through

I'm also from NYC and Kathryn is right on the money. There are so many toursits in town now it's hard to get around the city when you are closer to "tourist attractions". The Statue of Liberty is great but get there early and I agree depends on your 3 year old but my son loved climbing up the stairs to an extent, loved the boat ride but became really bored quickly. Have fun. Make sure you stroll thru Central Park. We have a lot of free concerts at nighth Fri-Thru Sun and there is so many activiteies going on and a Zoo, Shakespeare in The Park, and an amusement park(Wolmann's Rink) so much fun!!

Take the train from NJ and download a trip guide from the internet. There is also to see in NY so being organized is a really good idea. The ferry is a nice trip, you can't go 'up' the status- but if you are interested in the history (Ellis island) you should really go there.
