Hi Ladies-

My son is 15 mos old, and the other than once, the only times he's been sick was from bad vaccine reactions, twice. Well, needless to say, he hasn't been vaxed since he was 4 mos. Say what you will, I promise I've heard it all, but I stand strong in my belief to not vaccinate. Therefore, since this is the first time he's eligble agewise for a flu vax, I'm wanting to know if any of you have stories of any bad reactions?? He's a very healthy boy, and I'm going to be very upset if anything happens again. I understand the occasional cold or something similar might happen, I'm totally ok with that. But the reactions he had from his vaccines was nothing easy. Thanks so much for any and all advice you can help with!

What can I do next?

I have not heard of any bad reactions to the flu vaccine except to develop a mild to moderate case of the flu. However, if your son has already has severe reactions to vaccinations, I would do more research before deciding. You have time. I would find a doctor who supports your feeling and helps you to find out WHY your son had bad reactions to the vaccine. It could be he is allergic eggs, or to the DT vaccine, which is administered early and is the base of many other vaccines. I could go on, but like I said before, you need to find a doctor you trust and who respects your opinions, and discuss this with him. Though they claim vaccine allergies are rare, I have heard of many people who do have allergic reactions. Your child can be safely tested for these reactions. Obviously, I am a big proponent of vaccinating everybody to protect the child and the general public. But I do understand that there are circumstances which do not allow parents to vaccinate their children. If your son does not get the vaccine, or other vaccinations, it is very important that you and any body else who spends a lot of time with your child to make sure their vaccinations are up to date. Many childhood illnesses are treated as trivial, but in their heyday caused many deaths and permanent disabilities. Vaccinating those around your son will create a cocoon effect to help protect your son since he cannot be vaccinated.

Well you need to go with your gut no matter what anybody else says. Not trying to scare you but reactions to vaccines can be very serious. My little brother had severe reactions to his when he was 2 months old he lived severly disabled until he was 5. My boys had a reaction to his first shot and also my nephew we found out that it is hereditary. So please please be very careful. There are many good websites about vaccines and their reactions.please do your research. Good luck!

I wouldn't chance it! My sister and her son just went in and got the flu vax. They both had the full on flu right after that! It's not worth it! My sister said she will never do it afain. Especially if he had reacctions to the other vaccines, I wouldn't risk it. Good-luck

My kids are mostly grown now, and I would do things a little different that I did. I definately would not have a live virus shot into my body or my children. I believe we should build up the immune system instead of giving it something to fight off. Go with your gut feeling no matter what anyone says even if its not popular.
