Thai food is awesome in NY. Use the Yelp app to look up places based on the neighborhoods you are in.

If you are a foodie like you say you are, then you need to get to Astoria for awesome Asian food and of course, Greek (Stamatis is the BEST). Take the subway there and back. It's super easy and the cheap way to get there.

On Mulberry Street (Little Italy) go to Puglia. It's so much fun. La Mela is good too. Gt a canoli!!

Wherever you go for Chinese - you must get pork buns. In fact, try them everywhere you can. They are the best and NY is the place to get them!

Also, West 46th Street is know as Little Brazil. Yum!! Great places there.

There is literally good food EVERYWHERE. Little Italy is a no brainer, you just walk down the street and take your pick of what looks and smells the best. Nobu in Tribeca is THE place for sushi if that's something you like. Katz's Deli is the classic NY deli. Peter Luger's Steakhouse in Brooklyn is great but you may not get a reservation at this point. I still haven't made it to Hell's Kitchen but that area is supposed to be great for all kinds of ethnic foods, street food, etc.

I would also suggest checking Yelp for restaurant reviews. You can literally visit Yelp's New York site and search for their list of the best restaurants. They will have a list of the highest-rated restaurants and you can choose which ones will be in the areas you're visiting. Have a great time, eat well, and enjoy!

We enjoyed a little Italian home on the wall place just down the street from the Waldorf where we were staying. We also enjoyed dining at the Waldorf.

Tavern on the Green was open when we were there which was good but touristy.

Read local reviews and the answers your received from people who live in the area.

I've heard great things about Ellen's Stardust Diner. The wait staff is all hoping to make it on broadway, so they sing songs/perform while serving. It's in the theater district. You can google it. There are videos on You Tube.

Aside from Katz's Deli (already listed) and the usual Yelp ideas, I'd also suggest Open Table because it lets you see what's in your area that doesn't have a wait for a table! My son uses it all the time in Boston and it's saved him a lot of wasted time! Especially helpful when you're in an unfamiliar area.

The nyt used to run a listing of restaurants with $25 fixed price meals. The quality and service as good and the cuisine spanned the globe. I would start there.
