New to the Schaumburg Area.. Lking for Playgps, and Moms Groups

Hello! We are realitivly new to the Schuamburg area, we just relocated from ST Louis. I am looking for some playgroups (we are in one at the Civic Center) and some 'informal' moms groups. I tried some at a Local church, it just was not my style.. I am looking for a more relaxed enviroment, not so structured.. Any help or information would be greatly appreciated!!

Hi M.!

Well, you've already had someone mention Parents Who Care, although I'll just add my backing to that one. They've got an open gym during the winter and summer camp during the summer that are great to get the kids out playing with other kids! They also have a bunch of other awesome programs. Definitely worth checking out. Again, they are at http://www.parentswhocare.org .

Also, if you haven't checked out meetup.com for groups yet, there are some there as well. I'm in one that covers a really broad area range (http://sahm.meetup.com/99/), as well as one closer to me for Elgin and Cary (I'm in Carpentersville). You might search for more localized Schaumburg ones - there probably are some.

Welcome to the area!

Hi there!

I'm A., I live in Hoffman Estates, not too far from you. I belong to an online community for moms, called Chicagomothers. I'm also one of the moderators. We have regular playgroups and outings, Mom's Night Outs and all kinds of fun stuff.

The only thing you need to do is email the administrator ____@____.com'll screen you ( as she does with everyone), to make sure you're not a child pedophile or someone creepy. And once you do that, you become a member. You'll love it!

We'd love to have a new face and child to hang out with.

Hope to see you around!

A.

Hi M.,

Welcome to the area!
I just wanted to tell you about the moms group that really helped me meet people when I started staying home with my first. Now I have two boys (a 3 year old and a 16 month old) and we always have something to do if we want to and most activities are so informal that if we feel like staying home then that's fine too.
The group is Parents Who Care (www.parentswhocare.org). We organize playgroups, have holiday parties, monthly outings, moms night out, kids club at the Elk Grove Library, Open Gym...
There's so much to choose from.
The weekly Open Gym is open to the public if you just want to check it out. Mondays 10:30-11:45 at the Hoffman Estates Park District Community Center 1685 W. Higgins and costs $1.50/child for non-members.
The monthly Kids Club is coming up next Friday and you can check that out too.
I hope this helps a little. I know there are other moms groups out there too, this just happens to be the one I found first and it really helped us.
Please feel free to contact me if you want anymore info.
