Hi everyone,

We just moved here from California. My husband grew up in Durham/Oxford, but I've lived my entire life on the west coast. We have two small boys (2 1/2 and 16 months) and I'm looking for recommendations on Pediatricians (we live in Creedmoor, but I know we'll probably have to drive a bit). I also need to find a general practitioner and an OB-GYN. Any recommendations on doctor's you love?

Thanks!

D.

What can I do next?

Hi D.,
Welcome to NC! We moved here from southern CA about 5 years ago. I love it here. I have 2 little boys as well and I take them to Raleigh Pediatric Associates off of 540 and Falls of Neuse. All the doctors there are great. We see Dr. Hewitt. http://www.raleighpediatrics.com/ As far as OB/GYN I see Wilkerson OB/Gyn http://www.wilkersonobgyn.com/ (I really like Dr. Roche and Dr. Flanagan). Hope this helps.

Welcome to NC! I moved here six years ago from south FL and love it!

I second the recommendation on going to Raleigh Peds on Falls of Neuse and 540. I disagree on Dr. Knudsen and Growing Child though. We left that office and actually the final straw was hearing Dr. Knudsen belittle us just outside our exam room door. We called him on it when he came in and he admitted to it and apologized for it, but still very unprofessional. As I said, it was not our only issue with Growing Child Peds and we went to both the Wake Forest and Horizon offices.

I also agree very strongly that Dr. Anita Hudson-Fraley is the best! She is such a nice lady and I really felt comfortable with her. Unfortunately, I had to leave her practice when I got pregnant as she no longer practiced obstetrics.

If you live in Creedmoor, you probably won't want to drive into Raleigh. I used Regional Pediatrics. They have 2 offices in Durham - 1 off 85 & 1 off 40. Dr Wang & Dr Murray are my favorites! www.regionalpeds.com (Durham Peds was 2nd on my list after I interviewed a few, but in the end I went with Regional.)
I go into Raleigh to Mid-Carolina OB/Gyn, but I live in Durham right by Brier Creek. I have seen all of the practices doctors & I like them all except one. I have been to Durham OB/Gyn but they are too slow. I went twice & both times had to wait in the lobby for 30-45 mins! I didn't bother going back a third time. I know a lot of people who use them & love them but I don't have that kinda time to waste.
Hope this helps.

Let me know if you have any questions.

We take our kids to Capital Pediatrics. It has all the ammenities of a big practice, but the personal feel of a small one. There are 2 locations, one near Wakefield, and one on Computer Dr.

As far as OB-GYN, I see Dr. Alan Holton. I just had a baby in Feb. and he and his staff are wonderful!! I miss seeing him on a weekly basis! He comes with the HIGHEST reccomendation. His office is right across the street from Rex hospital.

Hope that helps.

Well, what is your philosophy?

If you are really conservative & have great faith in everything conventional medicine offers, then you have a great many choices.

If you are more cautious about meds & would wish to try alternative approaches to some common childhood issues, I can recommend Dr. Knudsen(Only) -at Growing Child on Horizon. I have not seen him, but I would go there if our Pediatrician was no longer available. I would NOT see any other Dr there. They will be closer to you than our dr. We see Dr Haynes at Stepping Stones on Raven Ridge Rd, just off Durant & falls of Neuse. She is very busy & it can be frustrating, but I have been very happy there as she supports my less conventional approach.

I love My GYN (no longer OB) Anita Hudson-Fraley @ Trinity Womens Health on Falls of Neuse.

IF you are more unconventional there are a few good Naturopaths in the area.

Welcome to Raleigh!
