ok this is a little weird, I am heading up a group for the community clean up. I kind of want something to keep the kids interested and focused as we are picking up trash. I kind of have the idea in my head to do a scavenger hunt of trash or a bingo card with thinks like water bottles and old socks etc on it. so first is that dumb?? and second any more specific ideas on how to actually do the game/s?? it's all sort of vague in my head.
about 5 kids and they are about 8 yo.
We do a clean up every spring and the kids just kind of compete to see who gets the most garbage. I think a game would be a distraction from the task. They like to use trash grabbers, and that is enough of a novelty to keep it fun. Also, we have a BBQ and treats at the end of the clean up as a reward.
What about a raffle, each bag gets you so many tickets?
So if the bag is quite large then you give 5 or if it is small 2 or whatever works for you guys.
That way there is a fun reason for everyone to get all they can and there is a prize option ... everyone loves a raffle!
What ages will be participating?
I don't think it's weird at all; our town does this every year. I think the kids would enjoy using the grabby thing to pick up garbage and then the one with the most could win a prize. Since it's a relatively small group of kids, you could have a prize for each one and a "grand" prize for the actual winner.
We always have a "home base" where everyone gathers before to get their supplies (bags, rakes, gloves, etc.) and then afterward we have a cook out - hot dogs, etc. It's actually a very fun day getting the whole town involved.
