Does anyone have any ideas what to do for my daughter who is turning 16. I'm trying to avoid a party at all cost...hee,hee. Any ideas would be appreciated.

My cousin took her 16 year old on a shopping spree with her best friend and then they spent the night at a local hotel. Nothing fancy, but somewhere with a pool so the girls could lounge and chill after their shopping spree. They ordered in pizza, and watched tv when they were done at the pool.
What I've done for the past 2 years for my 14 year old has been to take her on a shopping spree. Parties can cost more than $200, so I give her a price range (give or take) a little and she goes for it. She's been preferring this over a party for the past 2 years and her 15th is coming up and she has already stated she wants to do it again. The plan for the future 16 - big deal- is a trip to somewhere. Spain, but we'll see! Others in my family have done things like Disney Cruises or something special. Just family, yet fun. (That may be pretty costly though!) Girls get away or spa package could be kind of fine, somewhere local and a little cheaper than a trip somewhere. Pamper type stuff like maicures and pedi's. Small get together, pick 2 friends, girls night with mani's or something of the sort might be fun for them too. Good luck, hope you get some good ideas.

Do YOU not want a party? What does she want? This is a biggie birthday. We just had a big blast for my daughter's 13th. She wants to tour Italy at 16 and we are planning for that one.
This summer we are going to Europe to tour for a couple of weeks.
The New York trip is a great idea. My daughter and I went there for a mother/daughter weekend and had a blast. We stayed at the Waldorf, saw Lion King, had brunch at Tavern on the Green, toured everything. When our plane landed in NY our feet did not stop till we landed back in Dallas. We covered SO much ground, we were pooped, but had a blast and have a wonderful memory.
Another great trip we did was to LA. We hit the ground running seeing every site we could see. We were there longer, 5 days because we were on a modeling trip. We still managed to see and do a LOT.
Whatever you choose to do, make it a special memory for her. A fancy dress up dinner at a first class restaurant and first diamond is a great idea as well.

I think a mall trip to buy dress clothes for a dressy night out to a restaurant(maybe Reunion Tower if you've never been) and then to the theater for a play. If you want to upscale that, take her to New York City for the weekend and have brunch or dinner at Tavern on the Green and go see Lion King. If she has never seen a musical, it will be a memory for the rest of her life.
When my daughter turned 16, we lived in San Antonio and we took her to Tower of America's for her birthday dinner. This is on the 4th of July and we could see the fireworks all over the city. She was given her first diamond and ruby ring. This has been an event that our family has fondly remembered for almost 30 years. It wasn't expensive but something we had never done.
