I'm hosting Christmas dinner on Saturday with my extended family. Here's what I have so far on the menu for about 10 adults and 3 children: Lobster Bisque, Ceasar Salad, Ham, Turkey Lasagna, Rice pilaf, million desserts. I'm planning on doing light apps because the lobster bisque is heavy, but feel like I'm missing some side dishes - ideas, suggestions, prefer easy things? Thanks!!

Mery Christmas, All - prayers for peace in the New Year :)

What can I do next?

That all sounds so yummy!
My vote would be for stuffed mushrooms, I think they would go well with everything you listed. They are also easy to make and only need a few min in the oven.
Some rolls or crusty bread might go well too, with the soup, ham and lasagna.
I do not think you would need more than that, it sounds like quite a spread.

Cauliflower roasted with OO, garlic and lemon juice

Garlicky green beans, blanch 2-3 minutes then into pan with OO minced garlic, a squeeze of citrus and dash white pepper.

Steamed or stir fry asparagus, you can do Italian flavors or Asian

Roasted Veggies, zuc, peppers, onions mushrooms into oven with OO and garlic.

All the above are super easy and my kids love them. Your menu sounds delicious, enjoy!

You need a vegetable or two. My first thougt is Aspargus or Green Beans...nothing fancy just the vegetable fixed however you like it (not a casserole).

sounds wonderful.....what time are we eating? :)

what about some lightly-roasted vegies?

or asparagus (or green bean) bundles wrapped in bacon or prosciutto?

another option would be glazed carrots.

Enjoy your day!

The asparagus really gets my vote unless there are a bunch of people who just don't like it. In that case...pick another non-starch vegetable like maybe zucchini or steamed broccoli. Crisp green beans done the right way are also very appealing at Christmas time and with the menu you have laid out. it sounds like you will have a wonderful and certainly delicious holiday dinner!

I suggest a veggie tray with ranch dip and bacon wrapped water chestnuts for the apps. I would skip lasagna and rice pilaf and serve scalloped potatoes and a green veggie dish with your Ham and Turkey along with some nice bread. A nice dessert.

well you are missing the dinner rolls!!! Those King's Hawaiian ones are great, and good with soup and ham and turkey too. How about some hash brown cheesy potatoes too?

I agree about a green vegetable. I would do oven-roasted vegetables - anything that looks good in the market. Green beans, broccoli florets, baby brussels sprouts, and you can add carrots and cauliflower if you want (Yes, I know they aren't green!). Any quantities are okay. Toss with olive oil and salt/pepper, roast for 20 minutes or so, tossing once. You can use green peppers too but they only need about 10 minutes so toss them separately in olive oil up front, or add them at the halfway point when you are turning things anyway. You can make them ahead and re-heat them in a casserole if you need the oven space for something else. You have plenty of starches for this meal, but in the future, you can add potatoes (in spears or small ones just halved or chunked), sweet potatoes (cut in spears), and parsnips.

This one may not be along your tastes, but it's very easy......

Combine a bag of frozen corn, a small can of diced green chilis, and a block of cream cheese in a microwave safe bowl. Microwave until the cream cheese is softened and the corn is hot. Stir and enjoy.

Delicious sounding menu! It does seem a tiny bit heavy on the meat and carbs and light on the veggies. Perhaps some sauteed spinach or roasted brussels sprouts? Or green beans amandine? Or roasted broccoli tossed with lemon juice, lemon zest and parmesan (which is absolutely fantastic, BTW). Or even some sliced fresh tomatoes drizzled with balsamic and olive oil and topped with fresh basil.

I love roasted parmesan cauliflower (cauliflower popcorn). It's so good, we can't stop eating it.

I use real parmesan cheese and garlic salt instead of minced garlic.
