Need Help in Farmers Branch with Utilities, Get to Choose My Electric Company?

Hey Moms, I've moved a lot and am used to choosing the trash company and maybe choosing between two phone companies, but I'm trying to get the utilities on at the new house before we get down there and I just found out I get to choose my electricity provider and the list is huge! Has anyone had any good/bad experiences with specific providers? Just from the list we were leaning towards YEP. What should I look for? What do you use? While I'm at it, what trash companies are good? I hate this part of moving.

We have used Green Mountain Energy for 4 years and have had no problems. They're 100% green energy and the same price as the major provider (TXU/Oncor). As with any smaller provider, you have to call Oncor, not Green Mountain, if you have problems with the actual electricity - line down, service out, etc., but it's no big deal. Since we're deregulated in Texas, this is common. Some other companies advertise green options, but the companies still produce dirty power and aren't cheaper, so why not go for all "green"? Green Mountain has on-line billing and I've found their customer service to be very helpful and friendly. Good luck with the move!

Personally I'd look for some state type of website to compare various companies. I'm sorry but I can't recall the website. All will make promises, but try to compare them with each other. I've lived in Farmers Branch the last 15 years. The city issues large brown paper trash bags I think twice a year. You can buy additional ones at the fire stations or just use plastic trash bags. We don't have recycling at the curb, but there are dumpsters you can recycle at. We have very few drivable alleys. We've always put our trash out at the curb. The city picks up, you don't have to choose a service. I hope you love it here as much as we do! Welcome!

This is one of the lowest rates available - plus there is a travel incentive of 3 days and two nights in a hotel plus you earn vacations by using your electricity. Hope this helps!

We have been with Reliant for quite some time and we are very pleased. I like to know that when I call customer service (if needed) I can speak with a customer service rep and not be chasing down someone who "signed me up" on a MLM or profit making deal. NO OFFENSE to those of you who MLM...it is not my thing.

Customer service means a lot to us and I am willing to pay a little more to get it.

As for the trash, ours is with CWD.

We use Cirro Energy and have for 3 years. Our rate is one of the lowest. I have done quite a bit of research and Reliant Energy and Cirro are the best by far. I am sure that you can go online to check their rates. Good luck and welcome to the area.

Hi A.,

We use Green Mountain Energy, for environmental reasons. They use wind power. With the energy crisis what it is, we like supporting them.

It is my understanding that they are not more expensive, but actually cheaper. You can research this yourself.

As the crisis worsens over the next decade, we think this is a better choice.

Good luck.

Dear A. B,

I've been out of town for a while, so I'm sure you've already chosen your utility company. If not, you should check out a new company that delivers energy in a different way and, more importantly, saves you money! Go to my web site, www.debdunn.goambit.com, and see how much money you can save.

If you need more info, just let me know.

A.,

Whatever you do, don't choose Stream Energy! They have lousy customer service, and keep going up on their rates. They are now almost as high as TXU. A heavily network marketed company, all the reps really want is a sale. I am with Stream now and won't be much longer

Go to www.powertochoose.org and do some diligent homework.

Good luck,

D.

I lived in Farmers Branch and used Oncor. Never had any problem with them.

I think Farmers Branch is one place you DON'T choose the trash company. (In fact, I never heard of this before.) The city takes care of that. You get issued a can or cans to put in your alley (or by your front curb if you don;t have any alley) and they pick up twice a week.
