Any Idea of How to Pick Electricity Company

I was looking at our bill from Green Mountain Electricty and we are paying 16.4 cents per kilowat. I see there are other companies that have lower rates, some that have fixed rates and others that have variable rates. Any idea which company seems to be the best for our area with good rates

I would also go to powertochoose.org. I would also recommend Reliant. We have used them for close to 6 years now and their customer service has been great. They answer 24/7 which I like. Just my 2 cents.

If you'd prefer to stay with environmentally-friendly energy like Green Mt., I'd just call them up and ask for a lower rate. I did so last month, and they switched me to 9.3 cents/kwh. But you do have to call and ask for it. I think their customer service is mediocre (although improving), but I stay with them because I'd like to support sustainable energy, and that's worth paying a little (but not a lot) more. GL!

Reliant. Call them up and see what they can offer you we just switched from txu and they are beating their rates by over 3 cents. We are at 9.4 fixed.

One thing to ask whenever you call another company and ask rates. I was calling around and when I was talking to TXU (about to switch to them) they mentioned that if we used less than 1500kwh in a month they would charge a higher rate. We live in a 3500 sq foot house but there have been about 6 months out of the last year that we were below that 1500 kwh in a month. I'm not about to save electricity just to spend more money! So be sure you get all the details before you swicth.

We have MX Energy right now, no real complaints and we are paying around 10 cents per kwh (it's a variable rate plan so some months are as low as 8.9 and other up to 10.5). I was looking around to see if we could get a better deal but have yet to switch.

powertochoose.org is a good reference point to select a carrier.

We have Champion and we pay 9.4 I think on a 1 yr fixed contract.
This is our 2nd year with them, we were with Reliant for years but they wouldn't budge on the charges so we switched.

We are not stingy on the temp and we use a lot. Our bill has never been over $400 for a 4000 sq ft house.

I'd steer from Stream, it is a MLM with decent rates, however a MLM. We have a customer that won't leave us alone about it and was very demanding and when he finally realized we were telling the truth, he has lightened up.

Good luck.

Reliant. We switched when we moved and were shocked when we saw how much we were saving. On a home is over 2600 feet and not very energy efficent. Our bill has NEVER been above $200. Sometimes its as low as $80. WE are on the variable rate format. Good luck.

Yes I know what your talking about. I was paying 18 cents. I found a company that gives 8.9 cents that ends up 9.5 after fees are added from the Texas electric sourses. It all comes from the same sourse it's just who does your billing. Just for being a customer and or referring others you get free travel rewards. You can refer up to 15 and actually get free electricity. You get your own site from them to refer people to switch or sign up for service so you get the credit for them. The company is call ambit. You can check it out at www.wowelectric.joinambit.com. I did and I am glad I did.
