Need an OB/GYN Who Will Induce at 37 Weeks Due to Big Babies!

Hi. My 1st son was born 6 weeks early, and weighed 6 lbs 12 oz, which would have put him at 10 1/2 lbs if gone to term. My second was 2 weeks and 5 days early, and weighed 10 lbs 6 oz, which would have put him at nearly 12 lbs if term. It was a HORRIBLE delivery and I do NOT want a repeat. Both pregnancies tested negative for gestational diabetes, but I was overweight with both, and am still with this new one.

What I really want is an OB/GYN that is willing to induce by 37 weeks due to big babies. My last one wouldn't until 38 weeks, saying your body accommodates whatever size baby you deliver. (The ultrasound at 36 weeks was already reading 8lbs something.) My body is still not where it should be 14 months later.

Both of my boys were very healthy, with the only complications being back labor (he flipped around a 4) and a wrapped cord upon delivery. Healthy lungs, heart, etc.

Please let me know if you've had bigger babies, or know someone who has, and if the doctor was willing to induce. Also, what else did you like/not like about them, and where did you deliver?

Thanks in advance,
S.

Hi S., I can't help with the OB/GYN, but just wanted to let you know I understand about the big babies! I always laugh when I hear a mom say she had a "big" baby and then say it was almost 9 pounds! HAHAHAHAHA! Both of my kids were 2 weeks early and were 10.12 pounds and 11 even, if I had them full term, they would have been 12 and 13 too. However, I had C-sections for both. I was (and am) overweight and did not have diabetes but my doctor in CA was smart enough to know I was having big babies and just did c-sections. So girl, I wish you the very best of luck and congrats on the big babies!

Hi S.!

My boys weren't quite as large as yours but I had c-sections at 38 weeks and mine were healthy as well. My first son was 9.5 and my second was 8.13. Also my daughter was 6 weeks early and weighed 5.6. Recently we have become pregnant again and my OB told me that new insurance laws say that unless they can prove that your baby is healthy enough to be born, ex: amnio., then they cannot deliver any earlier than 39 weeks unless you go into labor obviously. I was quite bummed myself. Sorry that isn't much help but thought I would share what I was told. Good luck!

Just thought I would mention that my Dr. is Dr. Falk and is at Comprehensive Women's Center...same as response below.

I'm not sure on the exact number of weeks my doctor will go early but he actually considers the size which is what it sounds like you need. We just spoke about this at my last visit because big babies run in my genes as well. I also don't have gestational diabetes and I'm not overweight. Some women just have big babies!! Anyway, just at my last visit he suggested doing an ultrasound at 36 weeks to estimate the babies weight and to consider early induction.

His name is Dr. Hazelrigg and he is at Comprehensive Women's Health Care. Their phone # is: ###-###-####.

I can't say for sure he'll be what you need but at least he considers it! My first doctor didn't even talk to me about the possible size of my baby so imagine my surprise when my first baby was almost 9 pounds AND early! Ouch!

Goodluck.

S.-
unfortunately this may not be your physician so much as it may be the hospital protocol...i know at the hospital where i work in labor and delivery physicians can not induce before 38 weeks unless mom is sick (preecampsia, HELLP, etc) so this may not be the physician dictating this at all....so good luck!

Hello,
My son was 8lb 8 oz and I had a c-section at 41weeks. But it was an emergency one. My OB was awesome Dr. Kathleen Schwartz,. Here is their website:http://www.camelbackwomenshealth.com/
I wont deliver at Scottsdale Shea though. I had a bad experience with the a few nurses there. Plus I had others say similar things. I hear Scottsdale Osborn is good. Plus I hear Dr. Jean Moon is great. http://www.valley-obgyn.com/
which is who I would like to try next time if we can have another one.
good luck!
