Hi Ladies,

First of all thanks to all the mommies who always give me lots of suggestions and make my life easier in this foreign country. I had earlier asked for advice on hair straightening products a few days back. And I would like to mention that i have received some valuable advises from all you great moms out there. Thanks once again!!!
Now I have short listed two of the styling product brands and i am still not able to finalize on one.
The first one is Aveda Smooth Infusion Kit ( includes smooth infusion shampoo, smooth infusion conditioner, Smooth Infusion Style-Prep Smoother and Smooth Infusion Glossing Straightener) This whole kit is available at aveda.com for $87
The Second one is Paul Mitchell Super Skinny product line (includes super skinny shampoo, super skinny daily treatment, super skinny serum and straight works straightening gel) This will also cost approx. the same as above.
So all those super moms out there please make my selection easier and vote out one from these two.
P.S. I have shoulder cut hair that are coarse, somewhat dry and have become the frizziest ever in the world and wavy too after a recent hair cut I got 2 weeks back.

I vote Aveda. I used Paul Mitchell many years ago and found that a film builds up on the hair over time. Aveda is very fresh and clean. I might have to pick up the kit myself. There are a few Aveda stores around Portland. You might be able to pick it up there or even a sample set like suggested below.

Although I've never used these specific products, I prefer Aveda to Paul Mitchell. Aveda's products are really exceptional quality and use no petrochemicals, unlike many other products out there. I've used a couple of other Paul Mitchell products in the past and I agree with the mom who said it eventually leaves a build up in your hair. I've been using a more all-purpose styling cream from Aveda and love it! When I'm out I might just try the products you listed since they sound great. Good luck!!!

I vote for Paul Mitchell. The skinny serum works great when apply on after towel dried hair. Use it sparingly, you don't want hair to become too oily or weighed down. Emulsify a decent amount in your palm then apply on to towel dry hair and blow dry(it also has ingredients to help protect your strands while using heat). If you have the time, use a flat iron to straighten out the unruly curls and it also helps (a little bit) with the friz. I would suggest using a few drops and emulsify it in your palm then distribute it all over-- avoiding the root(scalp area) BEFORE USING THE FLAT IRON. The flat iron will aid in smoothing out your strands. The skinny serum will also leave your hair softer. Have you heard of CHI Silk Infusion serum? The product is one of best heat protecting-smoothing serum I've ever used and recommend to my clients. But keep in mind, all hair types are different... somethings might work well for others and not you or vice versa. Worth a try. Hope this helps.

I know that the ladies at my salon do a straightening procedure that is supposed to last for a while. Its relatively affordable too. Call the A List, or go to their website
http://www.alisthairstudio.com/

The procedure is Japanese straightening. Looks like it would be similar in price as the products you have listed, and would be more effective.

They are all great there too. The owner is a mom herself! They are very talented.

Good Luck

I have naturally curly hair and have tried every product (it seems) out there. I had the best luck with Aveda products for straightening. However, I would start with getting yourself a shower water filter (Culligan is best). Chlorine in the water dries your hair out. Start there and you will be amazed!

I have the Paul Mitchell Super Skinny products and I still feel like my hair is "big". I haven't used the Aveda products. Can you buy a sampler size of the two options and test for yourself? Sorry I'm not more helpful. My issue could be my cut and not the P.M.S.S. products that I'm using.

I have really, really curly hair (dry too) and I use the PM Super Skinny Serum as sort of a "leave-in conditioner". I apply the PM Super Sculpt Gel over it. I love it! If you wear your hair curly, try this:

Towel dry your hair with a cotton t-shirt, gently (towels can disrupt curls), apply super skinny serum - I use about two dime size amounts, then apply Super Sculpt gel. This is a really light weight gel so, you can use a handful and it does not leave your hair weighed down. Let hair dry naturally. Most days I have nice round ringlets and little frizz.

I have not used the PM shampoo or conditioner.

Good Luck with whatever you decide...

Paul Mitchell's Super Skinny line is fantastic! You will not regret purchasing it. I would suggest you go to a Paul Mitchell salon where they know the products really well because they deal exclusively with Paul Mitchell products and have them show you the best way to use and perhaps cocktail products so you get the results you are looking for.

I vote Paul Mitchell!

We have a local place called Antonio Melani Salon in downtown Everett on Colby Ave. They are very talented great with customers, they will order product and even pass on their savings to their valued customers. My mom got her Paul Mitchell Straightener at salon cost! Great deal, great product! Next time I need my Paul Mitchell products I'm going to have them special order the BIG bottles for me! Great value, plus I got a LOT of hair! I've loved this product since I started using it.

FYI they are talented stylists and great with customers too, even started doing daily specials, you should check them out!
