My son was about 3 yrs old when he started asking me questions about our world like “why is the sky blue”, “how does rain come from the clouds” stuff like that. I bought him a great book at the library about questions kids ask and simple answers they can understand. I pull it out whenever I am stumped on how to answer a question that a child could understand.
He asked me recently as we were watching the Discovery channel about Planets and out solar system “Does space have a roof and a bottom?” “Where does space end?”, “What is gravity?”, “How is it so windy on Saturn?”
The book I have doesn’t answer these questions so just wondering if anyone can recommend a good book or website. Can anyone give me some simple answers I can give him or fun creative ways to teach him?

My son is the SAME way... he recently made 4 years old and asks questions like that all the time.
I go online, I do a Google search on his questions, and we look at it together and I explain it to him so he can understand.
He loves doing that.

Noting that you're in Orange County, you might like
to check in at the Griffith Park Observatory website.
Your child is probably old enough
to go to one of the Planetarium shows.
Some of their shows are specifically geared toward younger children.
But I think he'd probably be able
to enjoy some of the other shows as well.
The museum itself has many exhibits
that demonstrate and explain our solar system and related topics.
When traffic is light (ha ha), you can probably get there
in about 90-120 minutes. There is (relatively) easy parking
near the front entrance.

I haven't found any books, but would probably be a good idea for my daughter too! If you ask what she wants to be when she grows up, she'll say "astronaut!" :)

I wonder if Sid the Science Kid has any episodes about the solar system? Their Web site might have some info. It's a cute show, your son would probably like it if he doesn't watch it already!

Don't know where you live, but look for a science museum, or look online at Discovery Channel. It's great that he is so cureous about our universe!
Wow! Good for him for being interested in that. I can't give you any suggestions for books, but I will keep checking back to see what others say.
Whenever mine are interested in something then I do all I can to teach them about a certain subject....Google, get a book, find a museum, play a game, draw pictures
I have an inquisitive boy who is now 7. Keep encouraging him to ask questions! :)
We have some Usborne science books that are good. I think your son might also like the "I Wonder Why" series, such as _I Wonder Why Stars Twinkle_.

So it's not just me? lol. Since having my little man 4 yrs ago I have had to become a quick expert on all forms of travel - planes, trucks, boats, cars, and of course.... TRAINS!!! omg I know more about trains than I ever wanted to know. And the human body. And all manor of ghosts, vampires, and the like. But every question leads to another question. Thank God for the internet, and NOVA. It helps to have internet on your phone. Or you can text questions to CHACHA (242242) I don't know the books, but I've seen them. I think "The Big Book of Why" is a popular one.
Our local Astrology Clubs have "star Parties" once a month. Behind the museum or at an observatory, some by the lake. They bring out a bunch of telescopes and there are lots of knowledgeable people to answer questions. It's fun. I think they organize them all over the country. We just watched the Persiod Meteor shower last month. They have great interactive websites. Oh and you can go to a Nasa and see pictures from the Hubble telescope that will blow his little mind!
