Natural Hospital Birth

I've had three natural births at Harris and had no problems with anyone there. Of course they will ask you if you would like something for pain but all you need to do is refuse and on you go. On the doula suggestion... I would check with your doctor before you do that. My doctor will ask you to find another dr to deliver your child if you have a doula involved, simply because you should be able to have your birth plan agreed upon with your doctor and a doula can get in the way of that, especially on birth day. As long as your doctor knows your wishes, you should have any problems with staying on course with your plan. Good luck to you!!

i definitely agree that it's a doctor thing, not a place thing. if you can get the doctor's support and aren't breaking the hospital policies, then you are set. just do your research on the policies of both of them. i had a fairly natural birth at Harris Methodist (IV and one dose of drugs the only real interventions needed/wanted). it was a great birth and they worked with me. one last thing: if the nurse assigned to you doesnt agree with your birth plan that you and your doc have worked out, ask for another nurse. it's your right!

You should read Natural Hospital Birth by Gabriel. It helped me with a lot of these questions about how to ask for a natural birth in the hospital and how to plan for one. Crazy effective and informative.

I would say that in order to have a natural childbirth, you need to look at the doctors. I went with a midwife because they are less likely to use interventions (i.e. induction, pitocin to speed up labor, and un-necessary Cesareans). They are under the supervision of a doctor so if anything happens you are taken care of. I would also consider hiring a doula. I am training to be one and they are your advocate for a natural labor and delivery. If you have any questions just let me know :)

I had a natural birth at Harris Methodist. My doctor has priviledges at both, but she said that Harris Methodist would be better for me. I loved my birth at Harris and will go back there for my second.
