I'm looking for recommendations for a nap mat to send with my son (2 in a little over a month) to his new daycare in a few weeks. They do provide a fold up nap mat thing, but want to send him with something that seems a bit more comfortable or personable/fun for him. Thanks!!

What can I do next?

I bought my boys their nap mats at Target. One has a Mickey Mouse, the other Cars. It has a built in pillow and blanket attached. It folds up neatly and comes with a velcro strap to bind it up. It washes easy too.

We love, love, love our Wildkin Nap Mat's, we use them for movie nights at home but I think it would work perfectly for a daycare nap time!

I would ask if it is acceptable. In my state they can't have anything like that. The cot has to be covered in a cloth that can be removed for washing at any time.

They may not even have room for them to have on in their cubby. We only allowed the kids to bring a blanket from home and they had to take it home on Friday for washing. AND we were not responsible for it in any way. If it got lost it was gone, or dirty, or cut up, or ruined by anything. We provided suitable naptime supplies and if the family wanted to add something to that it was not my job to take care of it...nothing ever happened to anything but I was not going to ever be told that something had happened to their child's lovey and I would have to replace it. By stating that I was in no way responsible I was protected from that.

I think if they have room for it to be stored then just buy the ones they sell at Walmart.

We got the same as Jenny for my kindergartener except it's princess themed! We got it at Target too.

Just be sure you are following any guidelines they may have at the home childcare or center. If they provide the actual mat (slightly cusioned and waterproof dealy), then anything fun with a pillow and blanket attached will be good. Also know if they will require your child to be able to manage it...like folding it up, etc. Many will have velcro straps to secure it once it rolled or folded, so maybe some instruction and practice at home could help?

I do home daycare and made covers for mine, but they stay at daycare (and are mine). They have a slip in spot for the fold up mats (like a giant pillow case with velcro all across the end), with a pillow (same deal as the mats so pillow can come out) and attached fleece single layer blanket attached and they fold up a certain way and secure with velcro ribbon straps. I can take the pillow and the mat part out so I can wash the rest all in one piece if any sort of accident occurs, or just for maintaining them with weekly laundering. They are very plush and comfy and my kids love them! (they are new in the last few months, prior to them they were in toddler beds upstairs).

There are tons of Etsy shops with them, but can get spendy, depending on if they are to slip over a mat or just lay on top of one.

Good luck and have fun shopping!
