Hi Ladies,
I know that it is such short notice, but my sons birthday is on Wednesday (Oct 7th). I know what he would like for a present and luckily its very do-able. But I am clueless as to what else to do for him. We dont have much family and not many friends either, but he is so excited and I really want to make it very special for him. He has mentioned wanting to go to Chuck-e-cheese, but the is only one here and it's way across town. As you know this is the middle of the weekend, so Im so confused as to what to do for him. I am such a stickler for having the celebration on the actual date, but that could be very much being as though its a school night and a work dayfor everyone else. Any ideas to make this special for my big guy will be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

What can I do next?

Make his favorite breakfast, lunch and dinner. Do all his chores for him (making bed, setting table, whatever he usually does). Give him a few extras, like 30 extra minutes of video games or stay up a little later and play a game with dad and mom, or rent a movie. Then, have a party or play day with another friend or two on Sat.

Started the day off with his fav breakfast, put a love note in his lunch box, had a hunt for some small gifts leave little clues leading from one to the other. If there is still time have the local weather person say happy BD to him. I know our local weather person all has pictures of kids on the show and tell us who they are , how old and who vistes them Happy BD. If you can go to his shcool with a little treat for the class. Just anything from your heart with make it cool for him.

Can you get permission from a couple of other parents to carpool 2 or 3 or his friends after school? If so, take them to Chuck-e-cheese right after school for some pizza and playing. If you go to their website you can get great coupons for pizza and tokens. He will have tons of fun and they'll all be home in plenty of time to do homework, baths, etc......

We did Chuckie cheeses for my son's 8th birthday this year, they have packages starting for 4 people, so it doesn't need to be big. We had 3 friends and my son for a total of 4. They each got tokens to spend, Chuck e cheese comes out and sings happy birthday to him. Look at the different packages, you can spend as little or as much as you want. I did it on short notice and called the parents to see if they were available before I booked. Even though it was on a week day, they have the party's for only 2 hours and is very easy even on a school night. Go to the web site and look at your options. You won't be sorry. Our chuck e cheese is about 30 miles from my home, but well worth the drive.

I am a stickler for trying to do exactly what the kids want, and more, so we rarely have the celebration on the right date. Actually, we celebrate on that date, and ALSO on the other date. The kids love it, and will often remember, say "the year I had THREE birthdays!" (when we did different special things on three days around the time.
So what about a writing up a coupon for Chuck E. Cheese at a later date and sticking it in a card on the day, then doing some different, more school-night-feasible activity?

For my son's 6th birthday a few weeks ago these are some of the things we did:
Party bags at school
Arcade at the mall
Mini golf
Bowling
Dinosaur party at grandma's
and then we were tired after 5 days of celebrating!

I think you have some wonderful advise. I'd take them up on the idea of inviting a few friends after school to go to Chuckie Cheese or maybe even doing it that Sat. No one mentioned that it is his GOLDEN birthday. He turns 7 on the 7th of Oct. Maybe get an extra gift thats special for his golden birthday or even give him seven dollars. You could give him seven dollars in gold dollar coins or even the big Heisenhower dollar coins. My son loved collecting foriegn coins at that age. Hope this helps. I'm sure it will be a special day no matter what. You could also let him decide what will be for dinner or even let him choose what restaurant to go to for dinner. Good luck, T.

How about just going to Chuckie Cheese? It is a trek across town, but it's a cool place. Does he have one or two close friends from school that he could invite? Just call their parents and ask that they meet you there, dinner on you for the night. You can get coupons online too.

Tell him that you will go to chuck-e-cheese on Saturday in celebration of his birthday. You will find that you are the only one that is for celebrating on that day. Have a cake a gift on the day of his birthday, but the party it self on Saturday. Talk to him and the family and friends.

Good Luck,

He won't care what day it's celebrated on as long as he has fun. Most people will travel a short distance for a birthday party, so call everyone today and let them know that he wants a Chuck E Cheese birthday and what time you are going to be there on Saturday.

It is a short notice (I do the same thing!) You might could invite a couple of school friends over for after school & serve hotdogs & maybe rent an inflatable space jumper or waterslide. Or take cupcakes to school for him & his classmates to have for snacks in honor of his birthday. Most of the teachers usually allow this if you ask them a day ahead of time, then maybe after school take him & a friend or two (or relatives) out to a movie & out for Pizza (anywhere) & take a birthday cake to eat after the pizza & give his gifts wherever you eat at. McDonalds gives Birthday parties, or they use too, you can check into that. Im sorry im not much help, these are really the only ideas I can think of. Im in the same situation, we dont know many people where we live, not have family here.
