I have figured out that when she has them we are out of normal daily routine! Like she had one when we went on vacation to see my daughter in North Carolina, had a mission auction at our church and came home and she had a seizure and temperature, had thanksgiving at our house , later that evening she had a temperature? Anyone know the reason why ?

What can I do next?

How often does she have a seizure? How long do they last? Is she ill after the seizure. Seizures are forerunners of a bacterial or viral infection.

If she's having febrile seizures, they are caused by a fever over 100.6 and indicate she is ill. The article that this site referenced says a child who has multiple seizures usually has 5 or less by the time they're 5. I urge you to consult with her pediatrician to learn about seizures and know when you should take her to the Emergency Room. Perhaps the doctor will want to see her now.

My son had febrile seizures when he was about the same age. They lasted until he was almost 4. He would get them when he was coming down with an illness, they were not triggered by a high temperature. He would have multiple petit mal seizures over the course of a couple of hours. Here is what we did. We had him seen by a neurologist at Children's Hospital. We had multiple EEG's done including a 24 hour observation one. Abnormal brain activity was never indicated and he eventually grew out of them. The doctor did not put him on epilepsy meds, however, we did have Diastat as an emergency med in case he had more than 3 seizures or they lasted more than 5 minutes. I would have your grand daughter seen by a Pediatric neurologist. Do not go to one that sees adults and children. They are not specialized enough for children. We made this mistake the first time round. If we had stuck with that doctor our son would have been on epilepsy meds until he was 6. A Children's Doctor explained to me in our son's case the meds would not have worked because of the type of seizures he as having, when he would get sick. If she gets sick often there could be an underlying immunity issue that need to be checked.

febrile seizures are not something you diagnose and treat on the internet.
you are putting your granddaughter in serious danger if you think that you can toss a scenario onto a forum and ask 'anyone know the reason why?' and take it seriously.
her parents need to follow up with her pediatrician.

I have a friend whose daughter has seizures. They have taken her to Children's Hospital in OKC several times and kept here there for weeks on end with electrodes attached to her head. Constantly ready to run EEGs if she shows the slightest sign of a seizure.

She's a teen now and they still aren't sure why she has them. She plays sports and does cheer and is completely normal in all activities. Bright and kind and a true sweetheart.

They just can't find what triggers hers.

Had this doc done anything for the seizures? Have they done any testing? If the pediatrician won't do it then perhaps it's time for another pediatrician to be consulted.

I suggest you ask the pediatrician for a neuro consult if your insurance requires a doc to initiate this.

Just a small note about febrile seizures and vaccinations. They have found a tie to febrile seizures after vaccinating. So, please keep that in mind when it comes time for another round of immunizations. You might ask the doctor about spacing out the doses and separating out the different ones instead of doing multiple vaccinations at one time. Her body might need more time to process the medicine, since she reacts to stress and illness in a severe way. My daughter had febrile seizures until she was 5. We had to be very careful to make sure she wasn't either spiking a fever or cooling off too quickly or she would have a seizure.

have them test her urine and for kidney reflux -- I wish I had investigated them more when my daughter was little, her fevers were every 5 weeks or so and were from kidney reflux but didn't learn that till she was 8 yrs old.

My guess would be she caught a cold or a virus.
A febrile seizure looks alarming but it's nothing to worry about.
