I have a 7yr old daughter, who will not eat vegetables. I have even tried feeding them to her. When she does eat them she gags herself and spits them out. Does anyone have any suggestions?

What can I do next?

I had this problem with my step daughter, I tricked her. I would cut up broccoli cut it up small cover it in cheese and she ate it, after she did I said to her "Wasnt that good broccoli?" she had no idea. I did the same thing when we went to chinese food one day and she loved it slowly after that I would do things like take some carrots and ranch and eat it as a snack and she slowly tried each thing, it was a slow process. Now I cant keep them in the fridge.
Her favorite food is now chinese food!
The more of a reaction she gets from making herself gag and not eating it she will continue to do it. When she sees that you wont get upset anymore then she will find a new way to get a reaction from you!
Good Luck! ~A.

Do not force your daughter to eat veggies, I was forced to eat liver once, and vomit right at the table. My dad never tried that again. However I dont eat veggies either, more then I use to. Good luck

My son, who will be 7 next week, went through the same kind of thing about a year ago. For whatever reason, he just suddenly refused to eat vegetables. He would say that he did not like things that I knew for sure that he did. I kept putting vegetables on his plate anyway. I started out with small amounts and telling him that he had to eat at least three bites of EVERYTHING on his plate, including the vegetables, before he could play or do anything else. I just worked my way up from three bites to four and so on... He still gets a little picky every once in a while, but it isn't near as bad as what it used to be.

Another thing you might try is the whole "you won't grow if you don't eat your veggies" approach...just tailor it to the things that interest her. "You won't have enough energy to play" or something...I have done that, too, and it worked.

Whatever you decide to do, Good luck! I know how frustrating it can be!

I subscribe to Parents magazine...and in each issue they have recipes or snack for kids...most of them are funny faces, or animals, or fun things kids like(balloons, bugs) made out of cut up veggies..if you'd like I can try to search for some I kept and give you some ideas?????
Also, have you ever seen the mvies "Veggie Tales?" Maybe renting one will interest your child...they're really funny and have good values..even my husband likes them! The movies might help, she could act out the characters...

One of my twins are like that. But I made green beans fun by seeing who could suck the most in like a piece of spagettie. We would do the same with the baby carrots i the stew also. And my kids loved the Veggie Tale video about Daniel the lion and such. So with Broccoli (which would have cheese on them) we would start singing the songs of the video a then throw Daniel in the Lions Den (mouth). Peas and Corn we would put a piece in front of each tooth and make our teeth look like they were green and yellow. But the raw veggies are also a good idea. I liked raw better than most cooked and so do my kids.

Try hiding the vegetables from her. For instance puree brocoli and add some to spaghetti sauce, she won't be able to see it and won't be able to taste it but you will know she is getting the vegetables. Anything that uses a tomato paste or sauce you can add puree brocolli to and they will never know. I usually just put a cup of brocoli with my spaghetti sauce and my little boy eats it unknowingly. Also you can just give her a daily vitamin and at her age that should give her all the recommended vitamins for the day. Has she ever eaten vegetables? Because this might just be a stage and she will outgrow it.

Have you tried dipping raw veggies in cheese or ranch dressing? My 15 month old loves creamed spinach (not sure if you can get a 7 year old to eat it but may be worth a try). I buy the frozen veggies with the sauce included (butter or cheese). That seems to help too! Martha Stewart has a "check out stand" cookbook that is full of creative ideas for making food look fun so kids will eat it.

Try sneaking them in food without her knowing. You could mash cauliflour in with the mashed potatoes or shredded carrots in the meatloaf. This way she will still get the veggies without knowing she is eating them. Have you tried making them fun like arranging them in faces and stuff. Just a few ideas, hope they help!

My daughter is three and will not eat them unless I hide them. I know that is a heck of an age difference there and your's will most likely notice. I just wanted you to know I know what you are going through.

Hide them, hide them, hide them. We were a vegitarian family for almost a year before my husband and children realized it. They are easy to hide in pasta dishes and casseroles. We had vegi tacos and burritos too...once they realize they have been eating them for a while they are more like to keep eating them.

How about using a juicer and making fruit and veggie juices? Apples and carrots are good together, but I know there are a lot of other possible combinations too.

Have you tried raw vegetables? I have always loved raw vegetables but could have cared less for "mushy" vegetables when I was a kid. Maybe serve them with ranch dressing or some other kind of dip that appeals to your daughter.

There are also a ton of recipes for vegetable pizza on allrecipes.com. Maybe if you let her make the pizza and choose the vegetables she wants on top you'll have better luck.

What I would do with my girls granted my girls were younger then your daughter is now but, I would put carrots into the spaghetti sauce and puree them so small she couldn't see them. Sometimes did that with cooked Spinach but sadly you can't get fresh spinach right now and cook it and puree it in there. Sometimes I do it with meats too depending on what meat your cooking. You could also try adding it to a meatloaf and when she asks what's inside if she sees the color simply say it's seasoning. Just a thought I hope it works for you.
