Hello everyone ,
My daughter will be three on the 15th of this month three days ago she was complaining about her eye, yesterday she was in the ER and the docs said she has a sty in the eye as well as some sort of bacterial infection on the eye lid and in the eye.
She got meds that needs to be taken three times a day and eye drips every four hours. I have been doing the worm was cloth to her eye every two hours. Her eye is shut swollen and very red. with green slim that comes out here and there. She can't even open her eye at all.
My Question is:
IS it normal when I do the drops and open her eye for red light leaking thing that comes out?
How do I know I am doing this right?
She also has a high fever.
THe Docs say if in three days it does not get better or her eye has not opened.
That we have to take her to THE ER FOR SURGERY !!!!
CAN U HELP ME?
ease my mind.

What can I do next?

That sounds like pink eye (conjunctivitis). A sty is no biggie. But pink eye has a very high gross out factor if allowed to get too serious. Is that what the drops are for...Pink eye? If not or if you cannot remember - Call the doctor back right now and confirm that that is what the drops are treating for. BTW - Surgery and pink eye really do not go together so I really think something has gotten lost in translation here.

Yes, swollen shut with crusty stuff and gooey stuff and seeping stuff comes with pink eye. And since it is an infection, I guess a fever is not unexpected though not necessarily a hallmark of pink eye. As long has her fever remains under 102 and can be managed with Tylenol or Ibuprofen, the fever is under control. And typically, antibiotics (that should be what is in the drops) can take 1-2 days to have any impact on symptoms and 3-10 days to completely cure the infection.

Be very vigilant with applying the warm wash clothes to get that eye lid open to the air and to drops. But I might opt for paper towels as they are disposable and pink eye is extremely contagious. Washing and re-using a pink eye wash clothe gives me the skeevies.

I'm sure you're doing everything right. The inside of the eyelid looks bad when it's red and sore. It just takes awhile for the meds to work. Just be sure you use a clean cloth each time you do the warm compresses. It's an infection, and you don't want to keep putting the same germs back on her eye. Take a deep breath and relax.

Please take to a pediatric ophthalmologist! It may not be as bad as it seems. You can find a pediatric eye Dr. on your heath plan, and if not, find a regular one that will see children. I learned years ago when my child had a chalazion that medical doctors do not always know what's best when it comes to eyes. My daughter's pediatrician had her on antibiotics that did nothing for what was going on. They did not know what it was. Her eyes are important and precious. Your health insurance should cover the ophthalmologist. Male sure you let them know it is an emergency so they get you in quickly. Also, warm compresses are great. It is best to use cotton pads-like you use to remove make-up. They are better than cotton balls as they don't fuzz and hold up better. Good Luck!

What has she been eating? Stys are a sign that the immine system is not doing well-find a place that juices raw, organic- that is where I'd start- get out of her system any sugar, white flour, food dyes, preservitives, check with WestonPrice to up grade her food, lots of raw veggies, good water.
The infection probably isn't just in her eye, but whole body.
best, k

Hi. YOu have received great answers, so I will just add a small tip to the below: wash the eye/put warm compresses on with 100% cotton balls or swabs. They are more sterile than towels and softer than tissues.

Don't worry, what comes with children, heals much faster than with adults. Soon, this will just be a memory.

Be well.

Go to http://www.remedies-for-natural-health.com/stye-remedies....

This link has everything I would recommend and gives specifics. Keep doing the compresses but tea compresses will speed the healing faster as will colloidal silver. Vitamin A will prevent a stye and is good for maintenance in an absorbable multivitamin for your little one. Please don't do the Flintstones or the ones in the grocery stores. They are "drug store" grade and do more harm than good. If you'd like to try a good vitamin, I can recommend one that's guaranteed to absorb.

Lancing the stye is what doctors do when it gets too big and threatens eye sight. It apparently is bad or the fever wouldn't be so high. You should be able to get it under control in three days!

God bless,

M.
