The past couple weeks he has ate just fine 3 oz every 3-4 hrs like normal but the past couple days night time feeding have been pretty non-existent. like yesterday I fed him 3 1/2 ounces at 6:40pm. I tried to feed him again at 9 and he only ate 1 oz and went straight to sleep while I was sleeping. Same thing at 12:30 and then woke up at 4:40am so I thought he was hungry but he only took another 1 1/2 oz and he just falling back to sleep again. I try to wake him up for feedings but he just wont open his mouth and no matter what I do he wont wake up enough to feed.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

It seems I worry to much and was feeding him sooner than he was hungry. Instead of 3 hrs its 4 and he is eating most of the bottle of 4 oz. I guess it was him just growing :) Thank yall for your advice!

With a newborn, you always call the pediatrician, rather than wait for answers on an internet forum like this. It's good that you know the times and the amounts. The pediatrician will also want to know about how many wet and poopy diapers you are seeing. Please don't delay - call right away. That's what the office staff is there for.

If he's gaining weight well, I'd let him sleep for longer intervals at night.
The first 6 to 8 weeks is major adjustment.
At about 8 weeks our son seemed to settle into a new pattern.
I was so ready for it - I was very sleep deprived and couldn't get use to napping when the baby slept - so better/longer sleeping at night really helped me out a lot.
Just when you get use to a routine they out grow it and you have to get use to something new all over again!

call the pedi to be sure everything is ok, but i noticed that with both my kids they slept longer when they were about to have a growth spurt and right after a growth spurt.

Old adage...Never wake a sleeping baby.. When he is hungry he will wake up to eat.

Don't worry he's fine.

I was going to say this is totally normal. I still think it is, but it doesn't hurt to call your pediatrician and mention your concerns.

But I do think this is normal. Babies go through so many phases at that age. Right now he could be sleeping more and eating less because he's about to hit a growth spurt. In a day or two he might be eating like crazy, which is another phase of the growth spurt process.

This can be rough on a parent, because their patterns keep changing. Just when you think you've got a routine, the baby will shake things up.

Hang in there!!! And do remember that you can always, always call your ped's office and ask if you are concerned. Always!

Babies sleep a lot when they're having a growth spurt. Don't wake him up. Feed him on demand when he wakes up. He's also getting into a sleep routine. So thank your lucky stars for that. :(

Always call the pediatrician's office with questions like this.
You're not bothering them at all!
That's why they have nurses you can talk to.
Good luck!

Maybe you will be one of the rare lucky ones who has a new baby that sleeps through the night early.

Sounds like your little guy is growing! Both of my kiddos would go through short phases of inconsistent eating and sleeping.

I agree with the other posts- check in with your pediatrician, but I'm sure you will notice that he will begin to level out again.

Enjoy the extra sleep he is giving you!!
