"My 16 Month Old Hates Taking Her Baths"

My 16 month old used to love her baths and would sometimes take 3 in a day. It seemed to change overnight, she now detests them and screams and cries like she is being tortured. Can anyone give me suggestions as to how to change this? The sponge baths are getting very old.

What can I do next?

My daughter went through that same phase. I bought her a baby doll with a little tub and would tell her we were going to bathe the baby. That would get her in the tub and then I would tell her to take a bath like the baby too and that actually worked. Hope this helps! Good luck.

Perhaps taking a bath with her may solve the problem. Or maybe it's time to introduce her to the shower. My twenty five year old son went through a phase of hating baths, fortunately it was summer, I bathed him outside in a shallow pool all along talking to him about the importance of hygiene. He was three at the time. We played rubber duckie games. To this day he has a rubber duckie! What you should know is this phase will pass and you will soon forget all the frustration. Keep smiling!

Looks like others had the same response as me! I had the same problem with my daughter, but had just turned two. The phase lasted a 2-3 months, and she is back to loving bath time. I recommend kids bubble bath, toys, new things to get her in there. Rotate new toys with old toys, then rotate the old toys back into the routine. That way he does not get bored.

I find that distractions work too with getting her into the bath. When she was throwing a fit outside the tub, I would be kneeling at the bathtub, splashing around, making a boat or something out of her foam wedges. I would then make a big deal about my cool boat and she would want to come see. She would then get caught up in the excitement and forget her fit.

Good luck!

Have everything ready in the tub, get her in, get her clean, and get her out.

You could also take her to the store and let her pick out a new bath toy to try to get her excited about the bath.

I had the same thing with my son, almost overnight at about 15 months or so he would scream like he was being tortured. By the time he was 2 or a little later, he was back to loving it. As Adrsma says, get her in and out quickly. I bought my son different toys, let him pick a toy, tried to make a story about bathing and none of it worked for us. You can try that route since it does seem to work for some families but it didn't do it for mine.
