Musikgarten of Oak Park or Other Music Classes

My 15 month old loves music and I am thinking that he would really love some kind of music and movement type class. We have driven past Musikgarten and am wondering if anyone is familiar and what did they think. Also, any other music class recommendations would be appreciated. We are certainly not looking for something so structured as to put him on the maestro path by age 3, but more like something where he can "ba ba ba" to the beat and do his oh so adorable butt dance with other little ones. As my husband and I both work, would also need something that has weekend classes.

What can I do next?

We take Wiggle Worms classes through the Old Town School of Folk Music and they are FANTASTIC!!! http://www.oldtownschool.org/

We take out class in Western Springs but they also offer them at 2 locations in the city. They do offer saturday classes, just check out the website and you can find classes and locations. The fall classes started in September, but you can still join and they will prorate the session fee. I think it goes through mid December.

Good Luck!

I don't have any advice about which class to take, but I can tell you which one NOT to take. Stay as far away from the OP Park District class with Ms. Deb as you can. Almost every parent I've met who has done her class has hated it. It's almost a joke in Oak Park because so many people have tried her class.

We've been doing the "Baby Beats" class at Merit School of Music in the West Loop. They have one on Saturday mornings and one on Fridays at noon. It's really excellent. Not cheezy at all (which a lot of little kid music classes can be, IMHO), and really well done. Also, they don't require you to buy anything - they provide little maracas and triangles and sticks etc. You can find info at: http://www.meritmusic.org/ They have a sliding tuition scale and most students can receive financial aid, too.

I don't know if they have weekend classes but Ms. Amy at Musikgarten is awesome. My daughter loves the class and I really enjoy it too. I would highly recommend it. I think wonder works has one too. The park district one was terrible I thought.

Yes to Musikgarten of Oak Park! We absolutely love Ms. Amy. A great class, and a wonderful and welcoming introduction to music. (regardless of if your kiddo is on the "reserved" side, as mine is, or on the extremely outgoing side) She does have weekend classes. You may have to wait a few months to start (as her fall classes have been in session a few weeks) but I think you can talk to her and find out.
