I have been trying to find "Mommy and me" classes or activities for my wife and son, 3 months old, close to the NW side of Chicago and have been only finding things in the Burbs or trendy hoods like Lincoln Park, Bucktown, Lincoln Square. She is a stay at home mom now and i dont want her to get/feel lonely, secluded or anything like that. (all our friends with kids are in the far burbs 40 miles or more away). I found the YMCA has swimming but little guy is a few months from that. The chicago park district stuff is for 18 months and older kids. I read good things about sweatpea yoga, but that's a trek for her to get to. Any help is much appreciated. Thank you C.

So nice of you to be so thoughtful! I suggest you search on www.meetup.com. There are some great "Mom" groups on that site. Good luck!

Hi C.,

How nice to see a dad posting here! Check out www.kidwinks.com, which is my website. You can search through the Events calendar or browse the Ongoing Activities section. If you become a member, which is free, you can then sort all of your search results in order of distance from your home, which will help you find things close to you. Also look through the Services section, which is where classes, etc. are listed.

Hope this helps!

Hi C.. I'm in the NW side too. Check out Merry Music Makers. I highly recommend it. You don't have to pay for the class either until your son is 8 months. Don't ever think that he's too young for something, it's good to expose him to everything possible. They are in Edgebrook and Glenview. Their summer session starts July 8 so you have time to register (on line). Check out Kidwinks.com too for summer fun (concerts, movies etc...). Good luck and enjoy your son to the max!!! C.

I don't have an answer for you unfortunately but your family is very lucky to have you! Most women wish their husband's were so concerned about them. You may want to do a google search or look in chicago parent. I don't know if they have anything in there. Also, I know this is a bit of a trek but the kohl's museum or chicago children's museum are nice places to go with a little one, or even the zoo now that its nice outside. Good luck!

Hi,
I have the perfect group for you! It actually took me about a year to find this group. Our group is called Moms Club of Northern Chicagoland. We ALL live on the northwest side. We are a very active group of stay at home moms who are very supportive of each other. We meetup about 2-3 times a week with our kids for activities. Here is our site: www.geocities.com/nwchicagomoms/

I hope to meet your wife soon! I have met so many nice women in Moms Club. Michelle

lots of people go to wiggle worms in lincoln square. if you are close to oak park, then musikgarten is great. park districts often have some kind of singing class for babies. Also here in oak park, there is a mom's meet up group. Parenthesis also has a mom's chat and get coffee thing going on.

There is a baby store, "Be Bye Baby" on the northside of the city that offers a ton of classes for moms and their babies. I believe there is a free playdate session every week.

How there! I applaud you so much for reaching out for advice! As a mother of three, I remember when I felt a little isolated at first after having my babies. I wanted so much to get out and about so that when my husband would return from work, I would have had a day of activity too. Not too much though but just enough so that we could have some good "dinner talk". I also wanted to keep up my appearance too. After having a baby, women want to begin the process of getting back on the beauty track. C. I would love to offer your wife a complimentary home makeover and pamper session. It can be scheduled around the time that's best for her and would take about an hour. In that hour she would get to feel and experience some wonderful pamper products and I would introduce her to what's new in glamour (nothing too heavy of course). I do these types of appointments at least three times per week and the joy it brings to stay-at-home moms is amazing. Give me a call and I'll fill you in on more details. D. - ###-###-####.

There are quite a few activities for stay-at-home moms, but my little one is almost 5 months old and I am just now finding a lot of them! I have participated in Stroller Strides, which is a great workout for mom, fun for the baby (to ride around in the stroller while mommy exercises), and a perfect way to meet other moms. The closest one I have found is now at Diversey Harbor (during nice weather) and at the Windy City Sports Center (Elston & Roscoe) if it is raining (or during winter). http://classes.strollerstrides.net/chicago/location/index...

There is also a fun music class for mommies & babies (or so my neighbor says) at Kindermusik. They are all over the city & suburbs. I think the summer classes just started last week so it might still be possible to join. www.kindermusik.com

Also, I am trying to organize some Saturday or Sunday activities for moms, dads, and babies. Can I put you on my list? (I am a working mom so I can't make it to any of the weekday activies.)

Oh, one more idea. Another mom from mamasource recommended the website www.meetup.com to me. It is a good place to find other groups of people who are organizing or sharing information about events. There are some Chicago Stay At Home Mommy groups on there. Good luck!

Check out Bloom Yoga Studio. They have a baby yoga class and it's up on the northside of the city. I really enjoyed it and the mom's there are really inviting. Good luck and congratulations!
