I am 20 weeks this past wednesday. This is my 2nd child. I had my 20 week check up and my doctor was going to hospitalize me b/c he said I was dehydrated I had no idea this was going on... but I have morning sickness so bad still. He prescribed me some anti-nausea medication but it doesn't seem to help with the sickness..

I never had this problem with my first baby.. do any of you have this problem? Also.. if you have do you know how to tell if you hydrated now.. I'm so worried that I'm still not hydrated enough and something will go wrong. The medication seems to make me want to throw up more.

Any suggestions?

What can I do next?

I was three times as sick with my second pregnancy as I was with my first, and sadly there was nothing I could do to make it better except to take the medication my doctor prescribed. I was hospitalized twice for rehydration, and that was really the best thing for me--I didn't have to force myself to drink the fluids, they were just put in by IV. If your doctor really wants to send you to the hospital, you should follow your doctor's instructions. Dehydration not only endangers you, but the baby.

Hopefully as you get deeper into your second trimester, your nausea will lessen. There are lots of home remedies over the counter--mints, lemon drops, seasickness wristbands--I bought them all, and nothing worked. Some people recommend drinking and eating separately--first, eat your meal (which should consist of a carb and a fat, and should be small, like one egg on an English muffin, or raisins and peanuts, or something like that)then, a half hour later, drink your fluids, whether it be water or ginger ale (flatten it by putting in a teaspoon of sugar).

Honestly, though, very little of that worked for me. It was just a waiting game, trying to get through each day as best I could. My second pregnancy was just misery after misery, but I got through it and now I have a beautiful baby girl. So just know that this, too, shall pass, and that it's worth it. But to be honest, I will never be getting pregnant again. It was just too hard the second time, and I can't risk being sick like that with TWO kids in the house.

I was also given suppositories. Fenegrin I believe it's called. It comes in a pill and a suppository- I had both. It makes you VERY tired though. It worked okay but as the other ladies said, nothing REALLY works. I just cried a lot. I was also prescribed Zofran- an anti nasuea drug for cancer. $100 a pill if you have no insurance, but they helped very little. Just hang in there. I hated when people told me that, but there's little else anyone can do. It's just an unfortunate situation to feel as though you have the flu 24 hrs a day. I'm pulling for you!!

I had major morning sickness (in the afternoon and evening) with my second child. The medication did not work for me either (I tried two different kinds). The only thing that worked was real ginger root. I would put a few slices of the root in water and boil. I would then strain it and either sip on the ginger water or use a couple of cups of the ginger water and make a pitcher of decaf ice tea and drink that.

This worked for me, temporarily, so I would have to regularly sip on the tea. The bad part is the ginger was rough on the throat and it was not my first choice for taste. But I was desperate and willing to try almost anything. Products that were ginger flavored did not work for me, only the real ginger. You don't have to buy or use a lot as ginger root is strong. You can buy it in the produce section of supermarkets and I kept a small piece in the fridge.

The ginger root remedy came from an elderly woman whose husband had brain cancer and the chemo made him very sick. She said it was the only thing that worked for him. It worked for me and a friend of mine as well.

Other moms have told me that they used the motion sickness wrist bands that you can buy at boating stores. They are placed on a certain pressure point on the wrist and you can wear them constantly. I did not try this because it never occurred to me then.

I pray this works for you as I feel your pain. It is bad enough being sick but having to care for a 2 1/2 year on top of that is extremely challenging.
God Bless,
B.

Don't use prescriptions during pregnancy. I was having bad times due to extreme morning sickness and no to morning sickness tea soothed me with its natural soothing ingredients that are all natural.

First, I will say I that my morning sickness was never really bad, so I am only giving suggestions. I feel for you though. I have food allergies to dairy and egg whites that will make me really nauseous. I personally have had good luck with the SeaBand motion sickness bands and will sometimes even wear them at night.
So, my first suggestion would be to examine the foods/drinks you are taking in to see if maybe you have a food allergy. I found out a few years ago that I was allergic to Aspartame/Nutra-Sweet which also caused nausea.
Second, the following things were suggested for nausea and I did try them when I had one worse week of nausea that may have even been a stomach virus instead of pregnancy symptoms. Ginger boiled into tea as discussed by another poster below; ginger-peppermint tea; candied ginger; GinGin candies; and vitamin B-6 pills (recommended by my doctor). Preggie pops and candies were also recommended but I didn't try them.
Finally, regarding the dehydration: I agree this is very important to keep an eye on. Electrolytes may help you with this. My mom, who is VERY MUCH into nutrition and natural foods, did this with a stomach virus and felt it made a huge difference. She drank Pedialyte. You could even get the pedialyte pops if you can't keep a lot down.
Good luck! I feel for people who have to deal with that nausea more severe than I have had because I know how miserable I am with a light amount of it.

I had the same problem with my first baby girl who is now 6yrs old. I was in the hospital alot because of being dehydrated. I also had to use medication to help but they also prescibed pepcid antacid to help. I don't know if it was the medication or the pepcid or a combination of both. You might want to ask about it. As far as knowing if your dehydrated, the only thing I can say is to check if your urin is dark. Also if they want to put you in the hospital you should go, you will feel alot better with just getting fluids pumped in you.

Hello D.,
My name is C. and I am also 20 1/2 weeks pregnant and that meds the Dr gave me made me worse I'm not telling you to stop but I did. I dint understand how I could be so dehydrated and yet the I drank so much water, I couldn't eat or drink ANYTHING but the water. I lost 15 pounds in all, They wanted to put me in the hospital also so what I did even though I knew I would throw it up I would eat ice cream before I went to sleep or a shake, nothing hard or heavy, and I started making myself sip.. not drink because I couldn't, ewww, on juices . The Dr told me my body needed the calories, so I started finding ways to give my body what it needed I'm not saying I dint get sick but at night just before I go to sleep its easier on me. I still get sick but I have gained 4 pounds in the last 4 weeks, so maybe it is working and I never told the Dr I stopped the meds,LOL ,They think there working...ha ha, Good luck and God Bless I hope everything goes better for you.
