Morning Sickness - Troy,KS
Hello all,
This will be 4th child, and I swear I have never had morning sickness like this before. I am kind of at a loss on what to do. It literally lasts all day. I am constantly fighting the urge to throw up... (sorry, i know that is alot of info). I feel like this is affecting everything that I do. I have always had morning sickness with my other children, but not like this. At least with that, it would go away. Everything that I smell, I can't handle. Whether it is supper that I cooked, or leftovers in the fridge from the night before. I really cannot go on like this, it makes me cranky and sick all the time. I hate being like this, because I feel like mommy being sick is taking away from my other 3 kids. They didn't sign up for a cranky, sick mama. I try really hard to not be cranky, but it is hard not to, when you feel like every little movement you make, is going to make you get sick. Is there something I can take, or should I just wait it out.

I never had morning sickness with my son, but with my daughter I so so so sick. Someone told me to drink to water with lemon. So I squeezed a little lemon juice in and it worked for me. I drank little sips of lemon water all day and ate crackers. It didn't make it go away, but at least I was able to function.
Good luck.

Acupuncture.
That is what I had with both my pregnancies.
Worked instantly.
Just one half hour session is all it took.
It actually feels relaxing, does not hurt.
My OB/GYN recommended it.
I had had BAD morning sickness and migraines.
see an Acupuncturist that handles pregnant women.
How old are your other kids???? You can explain to them, simply, that mommy is pregnant and this happens... I did that with my daughter when she was 3 and I was pregnant with my 2nd child. She understood.... completely. I just explained to her... about my "tummy" and that sometimes this happens... and I need to rest etc. She was a real trooper about it. I found, that if I simply explained things to her... per my being pregnant... it helped a lot.
all the best,
Susan
good luck,
Susan

I tried a few different things for my nausea, but the only things that seems to work were sucking on sour things. I finally settled on the Halls Vitamin C drops - because they were low in sugar and at least I was getting some vitamin C. :)
Also, as soon as I felt halfway ok, I'd eat a little something with carbs. (half a peanut butter sandwich was my favorite). This seemed to delay the next wave of nausea a little longer. As long as I ate something about every 2 hours, I wasn't quite as nauseous. I still puked every once in a while, but these two things seemed to help.
I tried the wrist bands with the acupressure bead, and I'm not sure if they worked or not - I didn't see a dramatic change either way.
For smells, if you find ANYTHING that you like the smell of, keep it close. When a bad smell comes, grab your thing and sniff. I couldn't stand the smell of meat, but I really liked the smell of coffee (even though I never drink it - ha!). I would head to the coffee pot and sniff the wet grounds that my husband always seem to leave there. It helped some.
For the little ones, just communicate clearly to them that "mama's sick" or "mommy's tummy hurts." They will understand. I just had my appendix out and my 2 year old wanted to play and wrestle. I had to explain (in my mommy sad voice) that mommy had owies on her tummy and couldn't play. She took it pretty well.

I've had this same problem. i am 15 weeks now and trying to get off of Phenergan which has been a life saver. Its a nauseua medicine. I cant spell sorry. I've been taking it for over a month now. It took about 3 days to really start working but after that i could at least go in the kitchen. I was loosing wieght from throwing up so much. I have 2 other kids, and a house that was an aweful mess with me down for the count. Hope your doctor gives you something. Take care.

Ask your doctor at your next appointment for some Zofran to ease the nausea. I had really awful morning sickness with my first and I couldnt even get out of bed without 7up and saltines. But if its regular morning sickness it should end around 6-8 weeks pregnant, but then again I had it all 9 months. Good luck.

Yes, Zofran! I totally agree with the previous suggestion. I was on Zofran and nothing else helped. It's the only thing, that helped me stop puking constantly. (Or the nausea of always being on the verge.) Eat yogurt, or take probiotics and you won't have the constipation trouble. There is also phenergen (sp?), but I am very allergic to it. I know that it works, for some people.

I've been there. Until week 12 with my first baby and week 16 with my second. Awful. With pregnancy #2, I opted for anti-nausea meds. I had a 3 year old who watched a lot of tv while I laid on the couch and a part time job that required me to be able to present to others frequently.. I know some people will say that safety is a concern, and I appreciate that, although I clearly believe it was safe for me. I tried to use it as minimally as possible, partly to limit taking th eedrug and partly becasue it was really expensive. But it took the edge off and some days I really needed that. For me, as hard as it was to get out of the house, actually being out and about and busy helped me. And I took my daughter to Panera a lot so I could eat bread and not have to cook :) I am really sorry you are dealing with it -= they ay it is the sign of a healthy pregnancy :) Good luck.
By the way - I tried it all ginger, seabands, carbonation, etc. The only thing that I really wish I had tried is acupuncture.
