Monopoly Type Game Good for 1St Graders?
Hey Moms. We got Dog-opoly (Monopoly with everything dog related- breeds instead of properties and the pawns are things such as a mailman, a cat, a flea, a dog bone, etc) recently and my six year old LOVES it. We have lots of fun playing and it helps her work on adding and money skills (without her even knowing! Bonus!). Anyway, we were thinking maybe it would make a good Christmas gift for her 1st grade class. What do you think? They will be starting a money unit in their math but I don't know if it's too advanced for 6-7 year olds. My kid does okay but I don't know about the majority.

My son is in 1st grade and he wouldn't be able to play monopoly. Not without my help. The teacher or helper would probably have to play with them and sometimes there isn't time for that. How about monopoly jr? We have that and my son is pretty good at it but again still needs help. He is very smart too. I wouldn't do the adult monopoly though.

We just got Monopoly junior for our kindergartner and he is obsessed with it. I am amazed that he can sit still long enough but he does. I say go for it, but if you are wondering you can always call her teacher and ask.

my kdis don't have that long to play at recess, but I love the idea of a game. Connect four and Guess Who? are good for that age. Ask the teacher and i bet he/she could suggest something.

Well, we as parents are usually helping/doing the math for our children when we play Monopoly at this age. My daughter loves it, too. However, I know there's a Monopoly Jr, not sure if they are still selling it, but you could probably find it somewhere. I think that would make a nice gift!

What about Payday? It doesn't take long to play one or two months and great math practice. My son has loved this since 1st grade.

I think there is a "junior" version of Monopoly, along with junior versions of other games, like Clue and Yahtzee and Scrabble. You could try Googling it.

My daughter is 5 1/2 and for Christmas she got Monopoly Jr and loves it. It's not too advanced for her.
