Monopoly Type Game Good for 1St Graders?

We just got Monopoly junior for our kindergartner and he is obsessed with it. I am amazed that he can sit still long enough but he does. I say go for it, but if you are wondering you can always call her teacher and ask.

My son is in 1st grade and he wouldn't be able to play monopoly. Not without my help. The teacher or helper would probably have to play with them and sometimes there isn't time for that. How about monopoly jr? We have that and my son is pretty good at it but again still needs help. He is very smart too. I wouldn't do the adult monopoly though.

my kdis don't have that long to play at recess, but I love the idea of a game. Connect four and Guess Who? are good for that age. Ask the teacher and i bet he/she could suggest something.

Well, we as parents are usually helping/doing the math for our children when we play Monopoly at this age. My daughter loves it, too. However, I know there's a Monopoly Jr, not sure if they are still selling it, but you could probably find it somewhere. I think that would make a nice gift!

What about Payday? It doesn't take long to play one or two months and great math practice. My son has loved this since 1st grade.

I think there is a "junior" version of Monopoly, along with junior versions of other games, like Clue and Yahtzee and Scrabble. You could try Googling it.

My daughter is 5 1/2 and for Christmas she got Monopoly Jr and loves it. It's not too advanced for her.

My daughter loved it starting in 1st grade too, but she is also at least slightly advanced. I would see the problem that it's just too long of a game to play at school though. With us, we usually play it off and on over a weeks time- about 3 sessions or so. The JR version is good and just deals with $1-$5 bills and is also much shorter from beginning to end. Other good games are Scrabble JR and Boggle Jr.

What is the difference between Monopoly Jr and Monopoly?

We have Monopoly, Monopoly U-Build (only played once or twice..) and Monopoly Deal (we play this the most since it's a quick & fun card game.)

We personally made our son wait till he was 8 to play Monopoly (the board game) because even though he could play many games earlier than the "recommended" age, we knew that Monopoly was a long game and involved banking and adding money and stuff like that. He is 9 and LOVES this game now. I don't know about it being for first graders as I don't have any experience there, just telling you what we personally thought/did. Maybe we missed out??
