My niece is turning 9 this week and I'm considering getting her a couple board games. Would love opinions on favorites for this age!
Life, Clue, Uno, Yahtzee, Apples to Apples - the junior version, scrabble (also junior version depending on her verbal level). We LOVE monopoly, but it takes a LONG time to finish a game. Pictionary is always fun as well.
Jenga is also a good game.
My 9 yo loves Apples to Apples Jr and Pictionary Man. =)
Battleship is always a fun one.
I played Monopoloy at that age and loved it. Always good to teach kids about real estate ;) plus it's a game you can walk away from and leave the board. Some of our games would last a week.
Yahtzee is always fun and it encourages math skills.....

My 9 year old LOVES PayDay. And I remember having PayDay marathons with my BFF when I was about that age.
Another game I loved was Tripoli.
PayDay is a favorite in our family - and it's always fun to watch them with too much "month" left at the end of the "money"!!! Monopoly is good for long days but it's best with 4 players so there's more going on. Both involve math skills, and there are also a lot of theme-based Monopoly sets (different cities, major league sports teams, etc.). Clue requires strategy and it's a good thinking game. Uno also requires some strategy, and it's easier for older kids to hold all the cards. It's also portable and good for the car.
Cranium makes fun games for all ages. Does she have Sorry yet? The basic one is always fun, but they've come out with new versions too. My son likes Sorry Spin.
At the age of 9 I loved backgammon! and checkers and chess....
