Mom with Painful Pooper
Ugh. I am very constipated. Tramatic day in the bathroom yesterday. Good practice for giving birth.:-)
Can you recommend good fiber/potassium foods that really make a difference? I already drink 8 classes of water a day, walk and take collace- it must be my diet that is suffering. Please advise. Can't have another day like yesterday!
thank you.

Oh, I had the same problem. I took Colace 3 times a day and drank lots of water. Your doctor may be able to get you on a different vitamin too.
I concur with the other Momma with the foods to try. Plus add lots of whole grains. Fiber rich cereals and stir clear of the dairy until your system seems back on track!
Good luck C.!

ahhh constipation....one of the little things noone tells you about pregnancy until you are there. I recently started eating a Fiber One bar every morning between breakfast and lunch and it works wonders for me.
I have had IBS since I was 10, so the bounce between constipation/diarrhea has always been an issue for me. This has worked wonders in addition to eating even a small salad daily or every other day at minimum!

Fruit, and fiber supplement, like BeneFiber. I went 8 days without pooping with last pregnancy. Don't strain, you could hurt yourself/hemorrhoids/etc. Also, try walking 15-20 minutes after each meal, to get things moving along. And if things don't improve with the above, keep glycerin suppositories on hand, just in case. Good luck!

I am 20 weeks pregnant and had the same problem. This is what I did to help myself. I exercised as much as possible daily, drank lots of water, ate a ton of cereal packed full of fiber for breakfast and snacks and fresh fruits as much as possible. I also took collace two times a day, a prenatal with a stool softener, and 12 fiber pills a day (metamucil). It took about 1 week to really start to work, so give it some time. After around 2 weeks I was feeling almost 100% normal. I found it is just finding a balance of what to take and how much, now I am so much better and weaning myself off of all the stuff. Good luck and hope you find some relief soon.

Oh, the bad old days of pregnancy!!
Call your OB - he/she may switch your prenatal vitamin as those make you constipated (along with the pregnancy in general).
I took Dulcolax Stool Softeners every day and those helped. Also, good old prunes help a lot, too as will a high fiber cereal. Lots of leafy greens, too. And stay away from bananas and rice (and don't over do on cheese, either).
Good luck

Coffee works great for me.. my husband swears by salad and spinach. I think it has to be what works for you. Try prune juice.. or a handful of raisins. Also super whole grain bread helps.. you can buy whole grain bread in the supermarket.. look for the type with grains showing in it.. like arnold bread.. it doesn't taste great but it works.. also in the health food store.. they have fresh apple juice and other stuff.. check with them. good luck
