Dear L.,
Try your neighborhood branch of the public library and check the chicago park district. I think the website is chicagoparkdistrict.com

Hey L.- I joined 2 mom's group that were both great. One was Sweet Pea Yoga Studio at 3717 N. Ravenswood, Chicago. Call for information on the group run by Lauren and Ann. Also, I attended a group at Prentice (NW Memorial Hospital- 333 E. Superior) called Transitions to Motherhood run by Ellen McManus. I can get their number if you want it- Let me know. They were both great and provided much support. Take care of yourself, S.

Hi L.-
I highly recommend the St. Joseph's Hospital New Mom's Group, for mom's of babies up to a year old. It's free and facilitated by a couple of great maternal/child educators and lactation consultants (who are also nurses). Call Ruth Koloms-Gross at ###-###-####. I believe they meet every Friday at 11 or 11:30.
I also help coordinate a Mother's of Pre-Schoolers (MOPS) group on the northwest side. I got more involved in that after my son turned one. We meet the 2nd and 4th Thursday of the month from 9:30-11:30am in a church basement. Cost is $5 for on-site childcare in the nursery. All moms with babies not in school yet welcome! Feel free to e-mail me if interested in more info. Good luck!

Check out www.northsideparents.org

They have new mom's groups starting all the time, as well as numerous postings for other moms looking to start playgroups.

There is a cost to join ($35 I think), but it's worth it. Joining a new mom's group was probably the best thing ever for my social life (yea, sad I know).

The new mom's group I joined back in Jan 04 still meets every week and we even took a girl's weekend trip to South Beach together.

Good luck and congrats!

Hi L. - I don't know of any moms' groups for people with newborns but I, too, have a one month old - she was born in July. What kind of stuff were you looking for?
