Mom's Doing Yoga or Would like To
Are there any moms using Yoga as a way to stay fit? To help with stress? To stay close
to yourself. I'd be interested to know your experiences with yoga. I've been practicing
for many years now and find it a life saver. You?

I *love* doing yoga. I got an unlimited monthly pass and go 3-5 times per week at 7:30 am, leaving the house at the same time as my middle-schooler. Then I'm off to start work at 9: as a massage practitioner I can schedule up to three sessions before school's out, so it works out perfectly.
I've been practicing yoga for a year and a half, and bring many years of different kinds of movement to the floor: African Dance, transformational movement, authentic movement, and way back in my college days a wee bit of modern and jazz dance. I love to move! The yoga is helping me stay clear and centered -- it helps me feel where my center line is actually located, and it helps me stay grounded. It helps me in my relationships because I stop to breathe in heated moments, and I listen more deeply, so I can "hear" my inner voice guiding me about how to handle different situations. As an Aries, I'm a bit of a warrior at heart, and yoga feeds that part of me, in a gentle yet powerful and strong way. I'm also very kinesthetic, and I love the internal sensations and visuals that I experience in yoga. It's just a very satisfying practice.
BTW, I'm 53, have a 12-1/2 year old, have been practicing massage for over 21 years, and feel enormously blessed in my life.

I do a bit of yoga/pilates myself. Not to the extreme, but I try to squeeze in some stretching exercises. I do think that it helps and is also beneficial for lowering stress. I seem to breath better when doing this as well. I am not a overly fit person, but I do eat healthy and walk as much as my time allows. I do believe that if it wasn't for my morning stretching, I probably wouldn't be near as fit as I am today. I think it's a great body toner and stress reducer. If you were nearby, I would definitely look you up. :D Keep up the good work! ~B.

I've been teaching Yoga for two years and have had yoga and Buddhist philosophy in my life for over 8 years. I would recommend highly looking into Yoga Asana as a way to move your body, mind and soul.
I'm happy to offer you more advice, or you can find me at 8limbs, Santosha, the University of Washington, or Yogi Way (all in Seattle). You can also hire me as a private if you want to get started that way.
Namaste,
A.

I have done Yoga in the past and loved it I felt so good afterward, I loved it. The only problem was they got all "spiritual" on me and was way too "new Age" for me so sadly I quite. If there was someone teaching who wasn't trying to "spriritualy" teach me I would do it again.
I dont know if that helps you or not but those are my feelings on yogu!

Dear C.. I would not have survived motherhood without Yoga! I still make it a part of my life. I think it was key in having successful, nearly painless home births, and recovering afterwards, and going on to have my kids close together. I am a doula and I always suggest yoga as a way of preparing for birth, whether at home or in the hospital (all of my clients so far) and would one day love to become a pre/postnatal yoga instructor. I have recently found an excellent yoga class near my home in the country and am so so so happy. I also do yoga with my kids, who learn at home. we all love it!

I love yoga and do it as often as I can fit in to my life. I agree it's a life saver as far as stress goes. I would love to fit it in more frequently, but it's hard to always find the time. I practice from home about once-twice a week. Before kids I used to be more religious and practiced about 4-5 times.

I do yoga and love it. I started about 6 months ago and have found it to be essential. It has improved my core muscle thereby alleviating arthitis discomfort. Helps me maintain my flexiable and balance. And is a great stress reduction. I would recomend it to anyone. Unfortunately, I have been able to work it into my routine only weekly and have found if I don't get my weekly session, my whole week seems to be off balance.
Where do you an instruct?

I do yoga to help me it in shape. I do it at least once a week though I would like to do it more. I currently don't go to a class so I either do sun salitation or I use a DVD I have. I find it relaxing and that it helps me except who I am. It brings me closer to God as well.
