Mom Clothing

I like Loft (more expensive than Kohls, but you can find good stuff on the clearance rack) and Ross - which, IMO, has higher quality stuff and it's also better style-wise than Kohls or Target.

I used to like Kohls, but now I feel like everything there is either high-school trendy or old lady.

My favorites right now are J Crew and Athleta. I like a more casual style. I appreciate you not wanting to be an "OMG what is she thinking " mom. I have a friend that is that........she needs to update a bit and not have her chest out when she helps at school :)

I find Target and Kohl's and similar places to be made so cheaply it isn't even worth it. I would rather own 15 great basic pieces I can mix and match than 40 crappy pieces!

I think I am missing something. Every time I have gone to Kohl's I thought the stuff looked super cheap, yet really expensive (even with the discount). I am comparing it to Macy's. Macy's is so much cheaper and I think better. I.N.C. (I think it is just as Macy's) has cute reasonably priced clothes. I also like to buy the Ralph Lauren outfits (these are more expensive, but sometimes they have nice discounts). So when I get a pair of Ralph Lauren pants for less money than the ones at Kohl's I think there is something wrong.

Also, Black & White and Loft have 'mom' clothes.

I am not a Kohl's, outlet store, or sale rack type shopper. I prefer to buy quality classic clothing that will last me a long time.

One of my go to spots is White House Black Market. You can get trendy sexy clothes there that is not over the top, skank or frumpy. Others are Anthropologie, Nordstrom, some Neimans, I like some Ralph Lauren clothing, BeBe on occasion.

I love Target but I only buy kids' clothes there, I find it's so cheaply made it's practically disposable!

I like Land's End for tops. I do a lot of Goodwill shopping too-- good variety!

Quite a few of my former clients liked Chico's as well. I found some cute clothes at Eddie Bauer, too. (I tend to dress casual and a bit conservative, modest-length with shorts and no bra straps hanging out, etc.)

I have started to lose faith in Target and Kohl's for Mom clothes. I, unfortunately, am not Jennifer Lopez so her clothing line is not for me! And Target is either geared toward boring old people clothes or too young and too short clothes! In the past I have had the most luck at stores like NY & Co., Banana Republic and more recently, Ann Taylor-outlet. I always thought BR & AT were more for wealthy stuffy women but they actually have some classy pieces and the prices (at the outlets specifcally) were pretty reasonable.

I've never been a big Kohl's fan; for me, the quality has always been an issue. I really like Lands' End, Ann Taylor Loft, Eddie Bauer and Marshall's/TJMaxx. lately, I've been rather pleasantly surprised with JC Penney. I think shopping at a few different places works well and outlets are my friends!

I think as mom's we owe it to ourselves to dress to feel good about ourselves! My favorite stores...Banana Republic, Nordstrom, Athleta or Title Nine and Hot Mama (shopmama.com). Target can be iffy at times...sometimes a bit trendy and could be out of style next year so you have to be careful there. Kohls has some good stuff but I don't have the patience to find it!

I shop where I can afford - mainly Target and thrift stores, and the clearance racks at department stores. I buy what I like, and anyone who doesn't like the look, has 359 other directions they can point their eyes.

Depends on what you're looking for. I like ModCloth, Ann Taylor Loft, Kohls and occasionally H&M. Frankly, I buy what fits, isn't skanky, and things that are classic. I don't buy jeans with holes already in them, tops that only someone who is starving should wear, etc. If I get an embellishment on a shirt, I don't go for things that will make me look like an old woman. I still like to have fun but have never been one to let it all hang out. My skirts are closer to the knee than my butt. I'm currently wearing jeans, a tshirt and a black hoodie with a girly skull on it.

Argh, the way you say "Mom clothing" makes it sound frumpy already. I don't wear Mom clothes, I wear woman's clothes, nothing Momish about them. Wear what looks good for your age and body whether you're a Mom or not.

Anthropologie, Macy's, Lucky Brand, Black/White Market are my main spots. I go to Forever 21, H & M with my daughter and get great layering shirts (tanks, T's, long sleeve) for super cheap. They don't last long but it's great to have brand new tank tops for layering for only a couple dollars, I just buy new after a year or so.

Anthropologie always has a sale room, TONS of cute stuff marked way down. Same for Lucky both online and in stores. If you're on a budget don't discount some of the pricier brands, you'd be surprised how reasonable they are on sale. Marshall's is great for a deal as well.

PS- I almost forgot... some of my family's favorite items are from thrift stores. You need to spend a little more time but you'll find things you can't find in stores and you can't argue with the price.

My #1 go-to place is Younkers (Hershbergers in some cities.) They always have exactly what I want from casual wear to business dress, with great prices and sales. I'm starting to get back into JC Penny too now that they've gotten rid of that ridiculous marketing campaign. NY & Company, when I used to live near one, never failed me either. And the Macy's near us in WI isn't super high-end (someone told me this particular store is more of an outlet but you'd never know, except for the prices.) I plan to do all my shopping for my summer vacation there. Nice quality stuff, great sales.

I just bought myself a bunch of fun skirts from Title Nine. (I'm 41, btw).They are great mom wear, with bicycle shorts under the short skirts...Fun and functional.

I love this question! I hate clothes shopping...it seems I only find things that are teeny-bopper-ish or grandma-style. It is terribly challenging to find clothes appropriate for 30-40 somethings. Lately I've had moderate success at Old Navy and I've always liked Loft, but it is nice to see these other suggestions. :)

I buy good basics at well known stores and make the rest. This way I know the clothes will fit in places that it needs to and not where it shouldn't.

Some things have to be altered due to surgery to make them hang properly.

If you have a good solid basic wardrobe you can dress it up or down depending on the occasion.

PS I can't stand to buy something that the seams are about to fall out after one washing or there is not enough seam allowance to let it out if you add a pound or two.
