Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party

Is this a MUST do? We're going to Disney World the week of September 17th, so I know my kids won't be in the Halloween frame of mind, but I also know the park will be. I looked at tickets to this event only and they are $250 for my family of 5! We are paying less than $700 for 8 days of tickets (using the military deal) and I just can't see putting this money out unless is is 100% worth it. Has anyone done it and say it is a must do? Or we can always do another park on this day and just do our Magic Kingdom day when they aren't closing early for this. (My kids will be 4, 6, and 8 in September and we went for Christmas 2009 last time.)

We have done this a few years ago. It was a lot of fun, but we were also there the 3rd week of October so the kids were more into the Halloween swing of things, if you will. I am happy we did it even though it was expensive (we also had a great deal on tickets at the time), it was a once in a lifetime thing to take your kids Trick-or-Treating IN Disney World when they're the right age for it.

It's a cool parade. It starts with the Headless Horseman galloping out holding his head in the Liberty Square are, so that was pretty sweet. They have a lot of characters stationed at the rides (one really funny woman was talking to us in line for Haunted Mansion), and all that made it worthwile for us, but we went on our honeymoon the week before Halloween.
If you don't think your kids would be ready for Halloween or super-into the parade, then no, I don't think it would be worth it.
Have fun! We'll be there in 28 days and counting!

Put the money into another park or treat your kids to character dining instead.

We live just 1/2 hour away from Disney, so we went for the Halloween party only one year. It was really great because my daughter is a night owl by nature so staying up wasn't a problem, and the park wasn't as crowded as during the day, so for us it was worth the $, but we hadn't just shelled out for the day too. My husband surprised us with a little mini vcation before Christmas this year and booked 4 days and 3 nights at the Disney resort & parks. It would have cost us another $180 to go to Mickey's Christmas party. We were really tempted, but then didn't bite and I am glad that we didn't. We planned our park visits around which park had "extended hours for resort guests". That particular week, Magic Kingdom closed at 7 for the party on Sunday & Tuesday, 8 on Monday, but 1:00 AM
for resort guests so thatis the day that we went to Magic Kingdom. I don't know if the fireworks and parade were going to be the same on Monday night or not because unfortunately my daughter broke her elbow an hour after arriving at the park that day and left in an ambulance and then took a cab back to the hotel. :*-(. My husband did go back later that evening to snap a couple pictures and buy me an ornament and said the park was so empty and we could have had a lot of fun not waiting in lines for hours! Maybe you could plan accordingly, and save the $ or put it towards a dinner in the castle....make reservations now though if that's what you want to do because they sell out early! Have fun, and stay safe!
PS: if you do splurge on the Halloween party, make sure to take and wear costumes, it is a Halloween party, and the kids can "trick or treat" at a bunch of locations in the park. The year that we went, my daughter picked our costumes and I made them...per her instruction "I am going to be Cinderella, Daddy is going to be Prince Charming because he has black hair and black shoes and M. is going to be the Fairy Godmother"...so we were! It definitely made the night more fun to be in costume, Disney costumes are not necessary, just what she was in to at the time!

Hi,
My nephews went two years ago when they were 4 & 6. They hated it!
The lower lights and the parade freaked them out. My family is going this year and we are skipping it all together. We feel there is plenty of other Must Do's.
Have a great trip!

Haven't done that one, but we did do the Christmas Party a couple years ago. There was a great deal for military (like 50% off) but you had to get them at the gate. I don't think I would go to either for full price. Too expensive for a big family and Disney world has so much else to offer for your regular admission price.

I've been told it's fun... but definitely NOT a must do - especially at that price OMG!!!
