Hi Fellow Moms!

I would really appreciate your input on helping me coordinate a summer vacation in August to Michigan. (We picked Ohio last year and the kids have selected MI this year.) THANK YOU IN ADVANCE SO MUCH!!! Please share any good experience about MI- especially the two places listed below:

Well today I just saw a large ad about Double JJ Resort in Rothbury that APPEARS really cool for 8 yr. olds. But then I read on tripadvisor some mixed reviews but maybe that's before it was under different management now. (I heard they opened back up in 2009 under new management. ARe the rooms and cabins and houses really clean and is it worth it? How about the waterpark? Indoor only one? See... ya can't click on things to see pictures of the waterpark. The rooms on line look absolutely clean but reviews on tripadvisor were conflicting! I would love to stay in a log home or log cabin with my family. Is there enough to do for 3 or 4 days? I don't mind driving to other nearby places. But are there other places within a 15 mile radius to go to? Is the weekend rodeo any good? What else is good or bad there?

The other place I heard about from a mom at a park was Mac In....? Island (I guess I could of looked it up first online- can't remember the full name of the island) Anyway.... this woman told me things about a month ago and at the time it sounded so cool but I honesty can't remember the stuff she said. I guess I only was some what focused on her since I was paying attention to my kids at the park as well. She mentioned cool things to do and places to stay. Could you recommend some of these places to me so that I could check them out on line.

What can I do next?

The west coast of Michigan has some great little towns depending on how you want to do it- drive up and visit different cities along the way or spend a week at one place. Saugatuck, Grand Haven, and Holland have nice places to go. In Muskegon there is an adventure park, Michigan Adventure. Have fun! I think she must have mentioned Macinac Island.

Mackinaw City/Island is a lot of fun and packed with a lot of history. It is quite a distance but if you stay in the city your close to a lot of things including the U.P. which has a lot of scenic/fun places to go to.

Oh and I stayed at a Mackinaw City campground a couples years ago in a log cabin. The cabin was really nice if you plan to go that route. http://www.campmackinaw.com/

Mackinac Island is fun, but far away. I love Traverse CIty. Great beach, bay, wine tours, camping is fabulous there, Sleeping Bear Dunes. You really feel like you're on vacation. I don't have a recommendtaion for a place to stay, but there are tons of accommodations and activities for EVERYONE!

Go to the Keewenaw and do Copper Harbor and the Copper Mines. THey have tours that are really fun, You get to go into the mines on the trams.
We have camped in many of the campgrounds. Some have ammenities some do not. LIving on the East Coast I really miss the UP.

Mackinac Island is a resort town if you are into that. There are no cars on the island. The Mighty Mac is cool. It is a toll bridge.
So is Traverse City and there is plenty to keep you busy for four days.

I will second the suggestion for Traverse City. We are headed up there the end of June. We are staying at the Grand Beach Resort. They do have camping and also cabins to rent at various places in Traverse City.
