My husband will be taking a week off this summer.. We thought about camping, but camping for week sounded like a lot of work.. We thought renting a cabin might be a good choice for our family. Kids could play outside all day, swim splash, we could generally relax and just have family time.

I am not sure how to find a cabin in michiigan to rent. Anyone know of good cabins/rental places?? Is there a good online source of rental places?? I was thinking Petoskey/Traverse City.. but I am open to all locations.

We stayed in UP about 4 yrs ago in Sunrise Cabins in Paradise, MI. Cute rustic cabins, not fancy at all, but the view and Lake Superior access can't be beat. Can't remeber how much they were, plus we stayed in the off season. There are lots of cabin rental in Paradise, MI. Taqumenon State Park is close too and has beautiful waterfalls. Do a google search for State parks in MI. Most state parks have cabins for rent and would be cheeper than privately owned, such as these Sunrise Cabins. Good luck and have fun and book early!!!

There is a place called Cedar Rest Resort in East Jordan on the south arm of Lake Charlevoix. It's owned by the same owner for the past 50+ years. They have many reasonably priced cottages including a couple of original log cabins, (very basic amenties, nothing fancy), but some right on the beach. It's a nice beach in a cove, great for young kids, a small playground. Our family has a cottage down the lake that was being rennovated. My family rented a cottage while we were working on the house. Very nice people. We enjoyed it. If you're interested, drop me a note and I'll find their phone number.

Try VRBO.com - vacation rentals by owner. We have done this a couple of times and ended up with great places. Also look online for the area you want to stay in. I know Lexington, near Port Huron, where we have a cottage, has it's own accommodation lists so I expect other parts of the state will too.

My inlaws live on Torch Lake on the Northwest side right next door to "Sunrise Acres" cabins. Their website is...http://www.sunrise-acres.com/

It's an unbelievable lake and about 15 minutes to beautiful Elk Rapids and about 1/2 hour from Traverse City to the south or Charlevoix to the north.

Good Luck

Look at vrbo.com - it gives vacation rentals by owner all over the country and you can narrow your search by city/area. You can look at pictures and then they give rates and contact information for the owners.

i know that most state parks have websites where you can book cabins online, you could try that.

My mom, dad, sister, her kids and my husband and our kids all stayed in a cabin at Mackinaw Mill creek campground. It was a beautiful cabin and nice campground. The campground had a pool and very nice campground. We also could walk to the beach, unfortunately when we went it wasn't necessarily beach weather just yet. It was a fun camping trip.

I've heard of some nice rental houses in Traverse City but never have rented one there.
