Menopause or Pregnant????

Okay ladies,

I am 36 years old and have a 19 month angel boy. For the last couple of months I've been telling my husband I think I may be going through early menopause. No sex drive, some light night sweats, bad skin, horrible insomnia, extreme rage, etc.

I am now about 4 days late with my period. I took 3 PG tests this morning. All of them showed a "faint" line of positive. Normally, I would just think that I am pregnant, but, while I am not on the pill, my husband and I have been very "careful" (I'll spare you details) , and I don't even think I was anywear near my fertile days, which I know, nothing if foolproof. I still feel like I should be starting my period any day now, with very sore breasts, etc. I know you can have a chemical pregnancy (very early miscarriage), but I was always under the impression that you usually bleed with the loss and you only knew because you tested before you were late. I guess my question is....has anyone exprienced anything like this, either with the PG tests or menopause this early??? P.S. The clearblue easy test says menopause or pre-menopause could cause a false positive...I never knew that.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Well, I didn't want to guess at the lines on the tests anymore, so I took one of the digital tests this morning. It said "pregnant" and I still haven't started my period, so I'm sure I am indeed pregnant. I called my OB and they said I didn't need to come in for the blood test??? They just took the home test as valid and made my first sono/appt. in about 4 weeks. Thank you ladies for your input, I was and am still freaking out!

I bet you are pregnant. When I went to the doctor at 43 to be tested for menopause, he said that I was way too early to think of that. I told him something had changed. He called with the blood test and said that I was right...it was menopause. So, if 43 is early, 36 really is. Let us know! Have a blessed day.

You're pregnant. Menopause doesn't come on suddenly. Peri-menopause lasts for about 10 years. I am younger than you, but have already begun early onset peri-menopause (it's heredity). My fisrt symptoms were that my cycle began coming every 21 days. I also put on 5 lbs in the course of about 10 days. That was 6 years ago. I still have cycles. They don't just magically stop at one time.

Congratulations

I agree that because of the "line", it sounds like you are preggo. However, if it so happens that you aren't, definitely get your thyroid checked. The symptoms you listed are what I experienced when I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism after my daughter was born. It can sometimes take a while to show up. Otherwise, congratulations!

I would you ask you doctor to check your thyroid. Some of the sympptoms you describe point to that. It is possible to have early menopause. A blood test will give you the answers you seek.

Take Care and God Bless!

I was 40... and feeling peri menopausal, but I found out was pregnant instead. I didn't have all the symptoms you mentioned but it sure was different than the two previous kids that I had at ages 35-36. I don't know anything about the preg. tests vs menopause, sorry can't help you there. But I'm menopausal now and you did describe a lot of the symptoms, it's best to have your Dr check it out to be sure either way. 36 is very young to start menopause but it can happen! Most women I've talked to start symptoms around 43 and continue till abut 50... I'm 45 now and definitely in the process!

I'm with the rest of the Mom's I think you are pregnant! Congrats!

i would take a test tomorrow morning with the first pee. the line will get darker every day. your hormones double everyday. Sounds to me like you are pregnant! congrats : ) Almost all signs of starting your period are also early preggo signs. (sore breasts ect.)

Umm, my guess is you are preggo girl! That faint line is just gonna keep getting darker and darker. And about this:"No sex drive, some light night sweats, bad skin, horrible insomnia, extreme rage, etc.", yeah that's 'cause you have a 19 month old! Congrats!!

Congratulations! I'm betting you're pregnant. I felt the same way when I got pregnant (a surprise blessing) with my youngest son. I was 34 at the time. A faint line is almost always a positive pregnancy. I would go get a blood test to be sure.

sounds like something hormonal for sure is going on.
find a good woman dr to test hormone levels.
Suzanne Somers is a freak about hormones, but I believe there is something to what she believes.

My mother went through an early menopausal episode at your age, then she went through true menopause in her mid 50s which is normal. I don't remember the details of her "false menopause" as she calls it, but I think it lasted for quite a while--at least a year. Sorry I can't give you more info about it. I dread becoming Menopause Buddies with her and don't dare ask for details. Good luck and let us know what happens.

UPDATE: CONGRATULATIONS, K.! HOPEFULLY YOU WON'T BE FREAKED OUT FOR TOO MUCH LONGER. SOMETIMES TAKES A LITTLE BIT OF GETTING USED TO THE IDEA. JUST THINK--A BROTHER TO WRESTLE AND CATCH FROGS WITH OR A LITTLE SISTER TO LOOK AFTER. ENJOY!
