I still take pills the way Tracy C. describes below. It's the only way I can get them down and I'm 40+ years old. Try with something she really likes. I don't recommend any citrus juice though as they can often cause problems with medicine.

Take one of those pellets and plop it on your tongue, you will understand why sprinkling it on food doesn't work.

She needs to learn to take the pills. Tell her to put it in the back of her mouth, drink a ton of whatever and swallow. Every one of my kids were on adderall or some form of stimulant medication the only way to get them to take it is the way it was intended. All of them learned when they were five or younger.

I have a different way of taking pills that works great for my son. Take a big sip of water first, close your mouth and hold the water in. Then poke the pill into your mouth and swallow quickly. Because the pill is floating, it never touches the tongue and you don't taste it. I had my son practice with mini mm's first, because we didn't want to waste real pills.

I can't tell if you mean she won't take it cuz it tastes bad.... or she won't take it because she's stubborn and being obstinent?

My daughter learned with mini-M&M's. she put them on the middle of her tongue and then drank a full glass of something non-carbonated, preferably water.... but if you're reward motivated you could use juice or gatorade as a reward type deal.

Once she could do 1 mini-M&M, we started doing 2. And then one regular size. Now she can take fairly big pills with a dixie cup of water. it's all in the practice.

If she's being stubborn..... you're going to have to appeal to her logic. She needs the medicine because she is sick and the medicine will make her better.

Good luck.

It's time for her to have some serious consequences for her defiance. Take away her favorite privilege for not taking her medicine, pure and simple.

If it were just about the Adderall, I'd say that she doesn't like how it makes her feel. But you say she won't take any meds at all. What on earth do you do when she has an infection or a fever? Truly, you have to be the parent and demand that she take medicines. If she ends up in the hospital one day and has to have a needle put into her vein, that will cost you a boatload of money.

It was time to put your foot down with her when she was very young. She thinks she rules your roost now, and you just have to stop letting her call the shots. Take her privileges away until she does what you tell her to do, J.. This should be non-negotiable.

Depends on if you are talking liquid or pill. If it's liquid have her plug her nose and take it and then have her chase it with something that taists good before she lets go. With pills have her put some liquid in her mouth before she puts the pill in and then drink some more. If it's a battle of wills let her know whos boss and make her take it.

Good luck and God Bless!

My mother used to have me practice by putting it on my food. Telling me that if I can swallow a piece of steak,I can take a small pill. It worked.

I used applesauce, pudding, yogurt, and ice cream for starters as you don't have to chew these, so she won't be chewing on the pill when she eats food with it. It will go down easier, and then once she has that down she won't need the food with the pill.
