Hi. Try blending pears...also fresh coconut water works great! It helped my 18 month old daughter all summer. We are just starting with the store bought but hopefully that will work just as well. Another thing....blueberries! Good luck.

Hi There,
My son is almost 20 mos, and has only 6 teeth in front and 4 mollars starting to come in... it is hard sometimes, because he isn't a very efficient chewer. He loves fruit, so is generally not constipated, but does have that problem occasionally. He is not a big veggie eater in the chunky form, but will still eat baby food, so we give him baby food veggies still. The other thing that really seems to work for him is canned mandarin oranges!! He loves them and they work like a charm! He also loves re-fried beans... we make him quasadilla's with whole wheat tortillas and smear refried beans on it and let him dip in in sour cream... and he loves baked beans! Beans are full of fiber so these help. Good luck...

For dinner you can make mash potatoes with vegatables crushed with butter and thin strips of chicken breast with gravy, that's soft ,easy on the gums and tasty.
For breakfast Id suggest instant oatmeal ,comes in many different flavor like strawberry, banana, peach very yummie my 4 year old loves it.
Good luck :)

D., everything in his diet is binding, which is why he is constipated. Cheese and bread are the two things that will make you constipated. You need to add more fruits and vegetables to his diet. I would not give him pancakes every day for breakfast, even if they are whole wheat. Try a fruit smoothie for breakfast and his sandwhich for lunch. You can also juice for him -carrots and apples. Or,you can just give him an apple or two a day, which will start to loosen his stools. Apple sauce will work too. You have to get control of the constipation because it will create disease in the long run so you are doing right to get a handle on this now. Oh, one last thing-give him a probiotic. Jarrows makes a great one for children his age.His gut flora needs to be balanced-it's not at this time basee on his diet and constipation.

Prune juice! I finally started (at pediatrician's suggestion) putting a tablespoon in with her milk. Within 2 days she's pooping SO much easier and softer. I do a Tbs in the morning cup of milk and the evening. She hasn't noticed a flavor difference - at least not that's she's mentioned. It's been the best thing for her and using that little bit a bottle lasts a long time!

My daughter had terrible problems with constipation when she was younger. I ended up buying a big container of prunes, stewing them myself (a bit at a time), pureeing them, and adding them to applesauce, oatmeal, etc. It really helped and she loved it.

Avacado! You can mash it up and give it to him straight or put it on his turkey sandwich instead of mayo.

Good luck.

Maybe try Hummus with pita bread. Keffer (liquid yogurt)Since he is constipated you might want to try steamed brocolli or spinach to help loosen his bowels. Also increase his water intake. The whole grain pancakes and waffles might be helping his constipation. what about oatmeal.

This has been an on going battle for us too. While she eats 1-2 prunes a day, has no rice, cheese, bananas and usually plenty of juice/water we have this issue at least once a week. And when she finally does go it is really a struggle. Her ped. said we can use mirilax to help put water in the colon it is not a laxative so it is safe, but always check with your own doc before trying. I am surprised that many mom's said applesauce because our nurse told us that is also an instigator of constipation. What has really helped is warm baths. Have you tried beans and lentils, melons, prune juice. I feel your pain (and theirs) hopefully this is something that will also pass (no pun intended). Good luck.

How about avocado mushed up with cooked lentils? Looks gross, but my little one seemed to really like it as one of her first foods. The fiber from the lentils and healthy fat from the avo. should help!

Hi,
My daughter who is now almost two and a half went through a time of bad constipation. Her doctor recommended using a half capful of Miralax once a day with a 6 - 8 oz cup of fluids. It was a miracle. It isn't a drug it just allows more liquid into the stool. They had us use it for several months until the struggle was a distant memory for her. It worked right away and we reduced it to 1/4 capful before too long. The problem worked itself out and after a few months she wasn't using any.
When she was younger and the problem wasn't serious we fed her Earth's Best Prune's and Oatmeal baby food. It worked like a charm.
I know these aren't exactly recipes but I sympathize with the constipation problem. Good Luck!
