Losing the Excess

Ok, so here's my dilema... I am trying to lose weight and nothing is working... I have given up pop, and sweets in general. My biggest issue is just the excess skin that won't seem to go away. I have a small frame and when I was pregnant, I was all out front...lots of stretch marks and extra skin. I workout 4-5 times a week and I'm not losing any inches there...Any ideas on how to tighten up what seems to be a mile of skin I didn't know I would have??

What can I do next?

Unfortunatly excess skin never goes away. The only way to really get rid of the baby apron is a tummy tuck. I have however heard that pilates will help mildly with this problem. Good Luck

I encourage you to look at some of our articles on health and nutrition. If you are interested, we have a wonderful weight loss program that is so safe even children can take it. Browse around our website...watch some of the videos. They are really helpful. Let me know if I can help...I'd love to talk to you.

I saw your post. I teach Jazzercise at the Florence Jazzercise Fitness Center and I am also a personal trainer. Do you mind if I ask what kind of exercise you are doing 4-5 times a week? How long have you been doing it? Have you noticed any change at all? Was the program you are doing working at one time and now stopped? There may be some changes you can make in your program that may help.

You should try Callanetics. I think you can get it at Amazon.com

When I did weight watchers, they really stressed drinking milk. I asked why and they said that part of milk helps with skin elasticity, and it would help suck up the skin. I think they said 16 oz a day. Always did skim or 1% to keep calories low.

Good luck!

we recently started p90x, you might want to check into that before you go to a gym, it seems to be worth the investment, and i like the concept

The personal trainer told me the abdominal muscles are the toughest to work on. You can't do the same exercises because of way those muscles react to exercise. You need to change up the exercises regularly. Also twisting with the broom also is helping me out a lot. The only other thing I know is that those muscles are really tough and I had heard an old friend had surgery to remove the skin because she didn't want to work that hard with the exercises but she is now consistent after surgery. Personally I don't like surgeries unless they have to be done. Good luck and having a partner to work out with is always helpful.

Unfortuntely, if it is truly just excess skin, there probably isn't a good way to get rid of it.... cardio gets rid of fat ... core strength and abdominal ex will build strength in the underlying muscles... but skin is skin. :(

Not to be too depressing, but I was watching the Doctors TV show the other day, and they said that basically that loose skin from pregnancy really won't go away. I think toning your abs underneath can help some, and that's what I would suggest, some hardcore ab workouts. But they had a lady on the show who had quintuplets and she had serious loose skin, and she had to have a tummy tuck. If you really don't have fat around the middle still, and its just the loose skin, it will be what it is. One of the perks of childbearing and probably involves your genetics as well.

Don't know if you're working out, too and/or how much you lost, but working out with weights is ALWAYS helpful to gain muscle tone as well as boost your metabolisn.

I've found that exercise while dieting helps keep the skin up/tighter while losing weight. Good luck -- it's hard work but worth it for your little ones!! :)
