Does anyone have any recommendations for Tae Kwon Do lessons in south Overland Park? There are so many around and I just want to find a place that's fun as well as instructional.

What can I do next?

We used Masters Martial Arts at 151st and Metcalf. It's in the same parking lot as the CVS Pharmacy and Starbucks.

Master Tom is firm, but kind. He expects your child to do his/her best at all times. No goofing around is allowed. The discipline is exactly what my son needed and he loved going there.

If you want your child to be able to actually protect himself, I would stay away from tae kwon do. However, if he's just in it for the fun of being in a group with other kids, just pick the one closest to your home because they're all the same.

I don't know how far south you are, but Mo's is always busy. They recently moved from one facility to about 151st and Metcalf because they needed a bigger place.
I have no first hand knowledge about it though.

We have been going to Ko's Black Belt Academy for several years now and they are the best!! They have several locations but it is a family business and they are top notch. My personal favorite is located at 147 or 148th and Metcalf ###-###-####. Even if you choose a different location call them or go by for a visit. Bronson Ko is one of the most impressive young men I've ever met, it is such a great program. I have been to a few other schools but this one is far and above the BEST. good luck....M. Murphey

My 6 year old son takes lessons from Ko's academy. They have 4 or 5 locations, many in Johnson County. We go to the one near 135th and Nieman. Grandmaster Ko works out of that studio and they are awesome. They use fun games to engage the kids while encouraging discipline and the fundamentals of Tae Kwon Do. My son liked it so much that my husband joined too. So my 6 year old is actually a higher belt than my husband! If you decide to join there, please let them know that the Williams family recommended you. Good luck!
