Seeking Ob/gyn or Midwife Recommendation

Hello mamas,

We are hoping to have another baby and I need an OB/GYN or midwife recommendation. I had a great experience having my daughter (in another state) via a natural, non-medicated delivery. I would like to try for that again. I am not militant about this--I recognize the need to remain flexible as all manner of things can happen in labor. The most important thing is to protect the health of the baby and the mother. But I wish to find an ob/gyn or midwife who will be supportive of our desire and who generally supports letting nature take its course and who doens't push interventions unless they are really necessary.

Any providers or facility recommendations would be greatly appreciated! We live in Roanoke, so Keller, Southlake, Grapevine or Denton would be convenient locations for us.

Thanks so much!
K.

Do you want a hospital birth or birthing center birth? I saw Dr. Christina Dooley in Denton. I just love her! She is so supportive, loving, thorough, kind, compassionate - I could go on. My last pregnancy was considered high risk. She allowed me to have the natural birth I desired but keeping the baby safe. I had midwives with my other babies and she was in the room almost as much as they were. Also, Dr. Cummings in Denton is very supportive of natural childbirth. They both deliver at Denton Presby. I had Kathy Ellis who is a midwife in Denton deliver my first 2 children (I saw Dr. Cummings some of the visit with my frist one)and she is an angel. I saw Holly Groom with my third baby (Kathy wasn't working in Denton). She is wonderful also. They are currently work with Caring for Women and deliver at Denton Regional. That hospital does not allow vagainal births or VBACs and does not have a NICU. Kathy & Holly are both great but I would not recommend some of the doctors in that practice.
They is also a birthing center in Denton. The midwives Jean Sala and Betty Hoffman are there. I have taken their childbirth classes. Betty cared for me during my first 2 pregnancy. She is wonderful. You can always have a counsult visit to see if you like the doctor and what their feelings are about natural childbirth.

K., I really love my OB -- I should be seeing him later this month. I could ask him for a recommendation if you like. He delivers in Fort Worth at Baylor All Saints or Fort Worth Texas Health (Used to be Harris Methodist). He's fantastic. His name is Dr. Craig Keathley http://www.drkeathley.com/

You'll see me happily explain - I delivered my 3rd child breech vaginally with this OB. I swear he's the only doctor in that hospital that would have made the choice. (He left it to my husband and I, after explaining the situation was right and the ONLY reason he would say not to is if he was against breech birth for all reasons.) He's really the opposite of those miltant, doctors. Also.. I was in labor from 5am and didn't have my baby until 10pm. He never pushed for a c-sec to make his day easier. (Like some doctors) He just kept coming by to check on me, told me he was going home to his wife and child for a few hours but he would be back. It was all very relaxed and at my body's speed.

Anyway, I really trust him. If you want - send me a message and I can ask if he knows of any birthing centers and has any Mid-wives or OB's he recommends that deliver at them.

I delivered my second son at Inanna Birthing Center in Denton. There are three midwives there and they are under a doctor's supervision if necessary. I saw the doctor as well because I was put in the hospital for preterm labor. He was very nice as well and the midwives are awesome. I ended up making it to 38 weeks and the delivery was exactly what I wanted and was very personal and natural, yet also very safe. The midwives all have great training with lots of experience with mothers and babies in the birthing center and in hospitals. Send me a message if you have any questions.

Good luck,

K.

have you checked to see if there are any birthing centers in those areas? Freestanding birth centers are usually very in tune to their patient's desires and often accomidate as much or as little medical intervention as needed for the safety of mom and baby. Good luck on your hunt.
