My son will be turning 3 next month and is in LOVE with trains. Does anyone have any suggestions on ideas, location for his party? I'm at a loss. The party would be small around 6 kids. I'm open to other ideas beyond trains too. Thanks!

What can I do next?

If you want to spend a little money there's Thomas the train coming to Grapevine. Here's the link: http://www.dallasrailwaymuseum.com/dowt_main.html

We did this last year with my son and he really enjoyed it. He got to ride on Thomas!! :)

We had my son's 3rd birthday at the Frisco Fire Station #4, the one on Legacy with the helicopter out front. He LOVED it! There was no cost, I just brought my own cake and ice cream and some extra goodies as a thank you to the firemen.

There is also the train museum in Fair Park in Dallas. They even do parties, but I have never been to one.

Another great site for party theme ideas is: http://www.birthdaypartyideas.com/html/party_ideas.html

Good luck!

Gymboree has great birthday parties, and if you request a "train theme," I'm sure they could accommodate that. For example, they could blow their train whistle every few minutes, they could set up the equipment in a 'train' formation, they could do a live 'train' with the birthday boy as the engineer and all the kids being the 'cars'....you get the idea. There is a Gymboree in Frisco.

A friend of mine had the same situation so she had the party at her house and rented one of those little trains that are about the size of a golf cart - with little train cars behind. It came with a driver and the kids got to take train rides all throughout the party. She also purchased red bandanas and conductor hats from Oriental Trading for the kids to wear at the party and listed on the invitation to wear overalls or denim. It was alot of fun - and of course she incorporated the train theme into everything else (cake, etc.).

The only other thing is that they hold A Day with Thomas in Grapevine once a year and its coming up the last two weekends of March. This will be my first year to go so I don't know how it is set up out there but we are excited. Anyway - to get details just do a google search, thats how I found it.

Good luck! A.

Hi S.!
We just attended a 3-yr-old's cute birthday party at Jungle Gym (www.jungym.com), 5729 Lebanon Rd., Frisco, ###-###-####. It's a children's fitness gym w/small trampolines, tumbling mats, etc.... and cute toys. The instructors led the entire time and had cute songs and circle time -- all the kids loved it! Perfect for boys b/c the instructors were very energetic!!

Also, my son loves trains too, and I was looking into renting one of those small kid trackless trains that are really tractors that pull other carts -- you can hire them for birthday parties.... I see a lot of ads for different companies in the back of Dallas Child magazine (free at the doors of stores like Blockbuster). Here are some train rental companies...

Rent a bounce house!! My daughter just turned 2 and we had one for her party and the kids (of all ages) LOVED it!! They are very cost effective and easy. The people will come set it up and take it down. I used Jumper Bee in McKinney. They have many designs to choose from.

Thomas the Train is actually coming to Grapevine for a couple weekends at the end of March/beginning of April
http://www.dallasrailwaymuseum.com/

Also, don't know how far it would be to drive, but the Frank Buck Zoo in Gainesville has a party room and a fun train ride around Leonard Park.

You might also check out the Frisco Community Center. I just found a steal of a deal at one of the Denton rec centers for my daughter's 3rd birthday. Bounces house and other fun things included!

Speaking of bounce houses, you could probably rent one with Thomas the train on it and have it set up in your back yard. It's somewhere around $150 to get one for a day.

Another fun and easy party for kids this age is The Little Gym or Gymboree. We actually went to a Thomas the Train themed party at Gymboree and my daughter had a blast. They provide games, music and activites for the kids, as well as lots of running wild time. The bonus is that you don't have to clean up afterwards!
