Looking for Great Pediatrician in Tacoma
We are moving to Tacoma and I am looking for a new pediatrician for my three boys. I am especially concerned about getting the proper care for my 8 year old with special needs. I want a doctor who will take the time to learn about my son's condition in order to give him the proper care.

i go to university place med clinic like kerri, but me and my kids see dr. michael johnson. he is family practice and the best doctor i've ever had. he listens well and always finds an appropriate solution to any problem i've thrown his way so far (and there are some strange ones) I have taken my kids to see Dr. berry there in dr. johnson's absence, but i was not too fond of him. He's very nice, but he's always makes me feel rushed. all in all though, i think that clinic is the best and they have dr's in several fields there. pediatrics, family practice, gynocology, dermatology, internal medicine and another that i can't remember at this time. they are quick to get you in and there has never been a time when i haven't been able to get in for a same day appt when necessary, even if its with a different doctor. they are on 44th by bridgeport. they're # is ###-###-####

Dr. Julian Ayer at Pediatrics Northwest is phenomenal. He has been our pediatrician since my son was born. The wonderful thing about Dr. Ayer is that he listens when you have that feeling "something isn't right" and follows up on your instincts. I felt my son was significantly ill even though he was hydrated and upbeat. Dr Ayer ran some tests instead of letting it go. It was the rotavirus. Anyway, the guy is a gem. He has a daughter that is a year and 1/2 now. The phone is ###-###-#### and he works in the Tacoma Baker center across from TG. They are open 7 days a week!

Dr. Tutihasi at Saint Joe's Medical Clinic in downtown Tacoma. She's funny, genuinely interested in our children and she listens to our issues/requests. The listening means a lot especially since you hear so many bad stories of missed diagnoses because the doctor dismissed the patients concerns. Having worked as a lab tech for years, I judge doctors by how well they listen and respond to my concerns. Good luck:)

I take my son to Union Avenue pediatrics and they've been wonderful. They're in Tacoma right off of highway 16. They have a great staff there and all the doctors we've seen there have been very helpful.

Hi L.,
I have been nothing but pleased with Pediatrics Northwest. They are great group. My son and step daughter sees Dr. Mason Oltman. My son was a premie born at 35 weeks, and he took the best care of my son. He looks at all possiable causes before saying here are some meds give these. He wants to look at what could work before that. I really like that about him. Their phone number is ###-###-#### and they are in the Tacoma Baker Center right across the street from Tacoma General Hospital/Mery Bridge Childeren's Hospital.
Good luck! And Welcome to Tacoma.

Hello, I have two teenage daughters who still currently go to their pediatrician. I am happy with the care given and find that so many people in the Tacoma, UP and Gig Harbor area use them. Pediatrics Northwest and they have several locations, if you call you can shedule interview appointments and see if one of the doctors is a right fit for you.

I take both my children to University Place Pediatrics. We see Dr. Struthers there but I have also had really great visits with Dr. Rone (who, btw, is married to the BEST peds ENT doc) and Dr. Huatala. Dr. Davies is the only doc there that didn't impress me much. The only bad thing I would have to say is the last two times we have gone the wait was long. Although they quickly tried to recitfy that and have signs posted telling parents to let them know if you have been waiting longer than 20 minutes.
There is a great dentist just down the street from them too. Dr. Camm. FABULOUS dentist practice for kids. I wish they took adults actually! They make the experience fun and are SO good at quelling fears.

Union ave is great as is Peds NW. We see Dr. Ory w/Dr. Apostle as a back up. Both are great and easy to get referrals from. My 5.5 yo has SPD and although Dr. Ory is not a huge fan of alternative med will support me in ALL my decisions! We have developed a great relationship.
PS we're in FW now w/family in Tacoma

I highly recommend Brian Berry with Franciscan Medical Group in the University Place office. He has cared for my children since my daughter's birth 12 years ago. My son has Asberger's syndrome (high-functioning autism) and my daughter has an auto-immune vasculitis. He has done a great job overseeing their care while referring them to the appropriate specialists when needed. His nurse, Karen, is very good at insuring the kids are brought in to be seen immediately when that need arrises. Dr. Berry has a son who has a developmental disability and Karen has a grandchild w/ a significant medical issue (I can't remember what). I find them both very knowlegable and empathetic.
Welcome to Tacoma! It is a beautiful area!
