Hi! My kids and I love to go to playgrounds and I'm always looking for really fun parks/playgrounds to explore. We are in Mesquite but like to get out and travel and explore new places, so anywhere in the DFW area is fine with us. Any suggestions you have are appreciated!

You might like Arbor Hills in far West Plano. It is close to the Tollway so a pretty easy drive. There is a nice playground, picnic tables, and some really good nature trails. You can really forget you are in Plano! I suggest going on a weekday though if possible. It can get pretty crowded on weekends. http://www.plano.gov/Departments/parksandrecreation/Parks...
Bob Woodruff Park in East Plano is nice. They have biking/walking trails, a pavillion/picnic tables... bathrooms...playground equipment... nice parking area...a pond with ducks.
Farmers Branch has great parks throughout the city. There is a large covered playground at the rec. center on Valwood Between Josey and Webb Chapel. And, there is a great park with lots of trees and two playgrounds on Valleyview between 35 and Josey. Not to mention all the smaller parks you will pass on the way to those. Hope this helps.

Campbell Green rec center has a little "sprinkler park" and playground in the back - it's quite fun. Not a water park, just water shooting out of the ground and stuff, but loads of fun for a 3 year old, and even a 5 year old. The water's not to cold, and I enjoy chasing my 13 month around it as much as he does. Very refreshing.
We use to pack a lunch and take a day trip around Beltline. We stopped were we wanted and really got to see most all of Dallas.
The kids still talk about how much fun they had on these trips.

Check out the book, "60 Hikes within 60 Miles" by Joanie Sanchez. The book is broken down into several useful categories, it tells you how easy the trail is, if it is shaded, if the trail is cement or dirt.... it is very useful and will give you tons of fun places to explore.
They even say which hiking places have playgrounds!
Farmer's Branch has a historical park that is really pretty interesting. It has period buildings (some may be reproductions) that tell about the history of Farmer's Branch. It's located just south of Valley Veiw on Denton Road. It is only open during specific hours so you'll want to check on that before you go.
There's a nice SHADY park in my neighborhood. It's located at Braeburn & Plano Rd. in Richardson. There is also a great walking trail nearby in a wooded area--just across Plano Rd. which can be reached by walking under the road on a paved walkway. It is also nice and cool! I remember always wanting to find shady parks for my kids to play in. We have lost some trees in our park, but for the most part, it's still one of the shadier parks around.
