Looking for "Dress-up" Clothes to Fit plus Size 5 Year Old

Moms, I am needing some help. My 5 year old still LOVES to play dress up but I can't find any dress up clothes that fit her any longer. She wears about a size 7/8. Surely there are dress up clothes out there some where that fit bigger little girls.

My 2 girls love to play dress-up with Mommy's old clothes! Whenever I clean out my closet, I let them select a few things to keep. I may need to hem or shorten straps a little, but they love wearing my old clothes - and it doesn't cost a thing!

I would suggest 2 things

Hit the clearance sales at the party stores after halloween to buy costumes in all sizes.

go to good will or any other thrift store and buy vintage prom dresses etc.

C.,
My 5 year old son loves to "dress up" also.
Last year I bought a bunch of Halloween costumes for him and he dresses up as Superman, Spiderman and all the others I got him. It is the perfect time of year to go and buy some costumes for your daughter to use for dress up.

I don't know how "dress-Up" your daughter likes to get, but the add-on pieces like wings, crowns, jewels, shoes, etc that aren't an actual outfit might be another option.

You could try Ebay or Craigs list also. They do make size 7-8 dress up clothes.

You can always find them on line through Costume Express or at the Disney store. Another thing you can do is go to the costume stores/target etc. and take advantage of the 1/2 off sales. The Disney store will also mark theirs down as well and you can find the feather boa's and purses in the toy section at Target and Wal-Mart. Good Luck

I am not sure if you mind second hand items. I was in Thrift Town the other day and they have a whole bunch of Halloween costumes. I don't believe they were expensive at all. I also bet they will be even cheaper after October 31.

After Halloween you can get lots of costumes really cheap. I've done this a lot for my son.

C., I have some for sale that may fit. I'm happy to let you have her try them on, as well. I am trying to slim down my inventory of Princess dresses (and other costumes), as I have over 175.

I also have some shoes and accessories I am selling as well. Let me know if you're interested and we can set up a time for you to visit and see them. Thanks!

I have been in your boat and this a great time of year for your problem. I have a 7 year old who is 4ft3 and 85 pounds and loves dress up. What I do is stock up on Halloween costumes when they go on sale- usually about 10 o'clock on Halloween - and wrap thenm up and give them to her for Christmas. I have also had very good luck at lower end resale shops buying brides maid dresses and prom dresses for cheap - these make great princess dresses. (This does not work so well at the nicer looking consignment shops)

My daughter is 6 and is thin but very tall and wears a 10! She loves dress up too. We go after halloween and raid the stores even the thrift stores. If your anywhere near haltom city there is a place that has prob 200-300 costumes ranging from .99-2.99 email me and I'll let you know where its off Denton HWY

My girls love dress up. They are 9, 7, and 3. Even when their friends come over they want to play. My daughter is tiny and can still were all the store little kid finds but she is 9 and really should be wearing bigger. So her friends that are 9 and 10 can't fit in those dresses. I have found great dress up stuff at the good will and garage sales. I buy prom dresses and flower girl dresses. Even some fun suits, overalls, halloween costumes, ties, shoes, etc....stains dont bother me or even the discounted things that have a tear. The girls can wear them and play hard and i am not fretting over the money i spent.

after halloween all of the costumes will be on clearance you might try getting some of those, and you might also look at thrift stores and yard sales.

Check out resale shops (including Goodwill). You could find all kinds of things there from cowgirl gear to old flower girl dresses that would make a perfect princess outfit.

Good Luck!

I bought some old dance costumes at kid-to-kid that my daughter loves. You might find some larger sizes in dance constumes verses play clothes. Good luck!
