My 28 year old daughter has had migraine headaches for some time, and they've finally gotten bad enough for her to be willing to see a doctor. Can you recommend someone (perhaps a neurologist)in the Plano/Frisco area?

What can I do next?

I have had daily migraines for 7 years, and I see Dr. Stuart Black in Dallas. He is right off Central and Walnut Hill - not in Plano/Frisco.

I am 40 and have had migraines since I was about 18! I finally went for help this year and found an excellent Neurologist that specializes in headaches. His names is Dr Britt Daniel. He is at Medical City Dallas. I live in Plano too, but he is worth the drive. He is Mayo clinic trained, extremely caring, and really takes the time to explain everything behind why he is recommending what he is recommending. He has helped me a lot and enlightened me on aspects of my headaches I would have never thought of before.
His office phone number is ###-###-####.

He also has a migraine blog: www.doctormigraine.com
He is also writing a book about migraines and headaches that is being published soon. He is really a neat man. He is an older guy - I just saw him yesterday and he told me he's on twitter!

Good luck!
I feel your pain- migraines are not easy!

I went to Shannan Munoz. She is great! She put me on a blood pressure medication called Inderal. The side effect prevents migraines. My migraines were triggered by hormones as well as environmental changes (barometric pressure going up or down -- storms coming in, and in the summer the orange and red air pollution days). I've been on it for years and it's working like a charm. I don't even see her anymore; you can go to your primary care physician for this.

My friend has also changed her diet and is having great success. She's using one of those books mentioned (I think). She cut out chocolate, onions, wine etc. and is doing great!

Good luck!

Skip the neurologist. I went to several over the years and did not ever find the root to my problem. Buy her the book, Heal your Headache, by Dr. David Buccholz. Follow his recommendations to a T. THIS was the answer to my problems. I rarely ever get a migraine now. Good luck.

i had a friend that suffered from headaches. her doctor recommended drinking lots of water, to stay away from caffiene products, walk or do light aerobics on a regular basis, more fresh air/sunshine, ditch trash foods and eat more raw fruits/vegetables. my friend is has been headache free since that "prescription".

I have suffered from migraines myself since I was 18 years old. I recommend a visit to Dr. Shannyn Munoz. She is a neurologist in Richardson. She prescribed a medication called Amerge for me. It works great. Also, I know this sounds like a strange combination, but for the really bad migraines, I use a combo of Benadryl and Reglan (metoclopramide is the generic name). You have to get a Rx for the Reglan, but this is what they give you in the ER for migraines. It knocks them right out. Good luck!

Has your daughter tried going to a chiropractor? My husband suffers from migranes and he really benefits by seeing a chiropractor. In fact he went a whole year this last time before he had another headache. I don't know her phone number but a good chiropractor in the Plano area is Dr. Sue Hagel. I hope that your daughter is feeling better soon.

I've heard John Harney is good. Adding magnesium to your daughters diet may also help her.

Around that age I too had severe migranes. (23 in a month to be exact)! I was in pharmaceutical sales at the time and selling migrane meds(maxalt) and the doctors were actually clueless. The trick I learned was to take meds (regular old advil or motrin) as soon as I felt the pressure at the side base of neck and or around eye socket DONT WAIT! I also found out on my own that mine were triggered by MSG which is found in alot of seasonings. I havnt had anymore (except 2-3when I really wanted chineese food) in 5-6 years. Hope this helps! Sucks but the doctors have no test for migraine pain so don't get hopes up there are maybe 2 rx meds but save ur money and find trigger

Good morning, S.,
Migraines in women of your daughter's age are often linked to hormonal levels. Something to check on......... Also food allergies/sensitivities can trigger migraines. I have had experience with both these scenarios with my daughters.
She can try eliminating wheat, dairy and peanuts, which are the most common triggers and see if that helps.
We have spent big money sleuthing this in our family, and it turned out to be food allergies. It takes some changes in dietary habits, but is way better than taking medication all the time.
Good luck! I hope you find something soon that helps.

One more suggestion. Has she been evaluated for chronic night time clenching or grinding? The FDA has approved a nightgaurd for treatment of migraines. It's amazing how sometimes the headaches can go away when you eliminate the night habits. Good luck!

S.,

I specialize in a specific upper cervical chiropractic adjustment called Grostic and I'm in Plano. Please go to this website: www.upcspine.com to get a patient's prospective on how this type of gentle adjustment can help your daughter's migraine's. If you think this would be a good, conservative route to try before drugs or other invasive procedures, let me know and I'll do the entire first exam, (consult, exam and x-rays) for $45. Just be sure to let my assistant know that you found me on mamasource. ###-###-####.
