Looking for Dentist That Is Great with Kids in the West Metro Area.

I live in St. Louis Park, and would love to find a dentist that is great with kids in a reasonable driving distance! I know there are a lot of great Pediatric dentists, but for whatever reason, none of them are covered by our dental insurance. Can anyone recommend a regular "family dentist" that is especially good with children? Our current dentist is fine for adults, but pretty mediocre for the kids. I want them to enjoy the experience, if possible! Thanks!

Hi,
We also like Camp Smile in Plymouth, in the West Health building (494/55). The place has all kinds of fun stuff for the kids to see and do (funny glasses to wear under the light, bright colors, toys, you name it--and the dentists we've seen are very good and funny--the kids seem to enjoy going there).

We have Delta Dental.

Good luck!

Ann

I, too, live in SLP & struggled to find a pediatric dentist, covered by insurance, in a reasonable driving area for my 2-yr-old twins. We chose to drive to Eden Prairie to see Dr. Angela Wandera (www.drangelawandera.com) and have been extremely happy with her! It's a bit of a drive, but her office is set up nicely for children, her style is calming, and everything about the clinic screams "we love kids!" Good luck!

P.S. After reading other responses, I thought it worth noting that we were asked NOT to become patients at Camp Smile, simply because we asked for appts at a time that worked for us (around twin toddlers' sleep schedules). We were actually sent a letter cancelling our appt, after being treated extremely rudely over the phone. I would strongly recommend AGAINST them.

Although our office is not in the west metro, I'm pretty sure that our pediatric dentist has other offices. I have been EXTRAORDINARILY impressed with her. Her name is Dr. Ellie Sakhi.

Good luck!

Molldrem Family Dentistry in Eden Prairie! My daughter (5)recently needed 2 cavities filled. Well, she loved the experience! She said, "Cavities are alot of fun!" Anyway, after each visit, the kids get a balloon and to pick a toy from the treasure box. And Dr. Molldrem is very knowledgeable; the entire staff is friendly.

Have you checked with Camp Smile in the West Health building in Plymouth? I had to take my daughter there because her front baby teeth never came in, but it was a great experience. We normally see Dr Sandler in the Town Center building in Robbinsdale and I love him and his staff as well. Good Luck!

We go to Dentistry for Children and Adolesence in Minnetonka at the Children's West building. I don't know if your insurance would cover it, but the dentists there are fantastic! So kid friendly--my kids ask when they "get" to go to the dentist all the time!!

We see Laura Collier at Excelsior Family Dental in Excelsior. We followed her there from her previous location in St Louis Park because she's just great. Down to earth, great with kids, just a really nice person. And funny. And turns out Excelsior is a cool little town to hang around in.

Dentistry for CHildren, Dr. King is my recommendation. I go to the location in Edina on France. They are always kind and it is so geared to children. I have 4 little girls and I am just about to begin bringing my youngest.

My whole family, kids included (a 4 year old, 2 year old) go to Dr. Bryan Laskin at Minnetonka Dental in the Wayzata Medical Center just off 394 and 101. He's got 2 kids of his own so he knows the ordeal. My 2 year old even got her teeth cleaned for the first time with great success. Dr. Laskin has a lot of new technology in his office and is very educated on the latest and greatest dental techniques. I know this because my last visit required some work other than cleaning and I was very impressed.

I know a great dentist who is not too far from you! His name is Dr. Jay Williams. He is at Mill City Dental in Bryn Mawr. It's one block north of 394 and Penn. He is very funny and kids LOVE him! (My kids are 2.5 and 4.5.) The best part is that his receptionist and assistant are also great with kids. He has toys and videos in the reception area, too, so that one kid can be entertained while I check on the other one. In fact, we drive all the way from Eagan to see him.

I have Delta Dental and my husband has something else. Anyway, he takes both of our insurance providers.

Good luck.

I would try Metro Dental Care. There are many locations throughout the metro area. My family goes to the one in downtown Minneapolis, and my best friend's family goes to the one in Richfield. You should be able to find one in or around St. Louis Park. They have a great reputation and are amazing with their patients. This is a lot coming from me because I used to hate and fear going to the dentist! Good Luck! The website is metro-dentalcare.com

Our family dentist is in St. louis Park and they are terrific. The group is Rhode Island Dentists. We see Dr. O'Halloran, but Dr. Talus is also really good. Dr. O'Halloran is a wonderful older grandpa type guy...very experienced and great with kids and adults. We really like him and the whole clinic. My kids are 16, 14, and 10 and we have had the same dentist since they were little. We have also held 3 different insurance policies during this time and all were covered...

Good Luck!!
